    Principal Media Ingest Operator

    PURPOSE:

    • Effective and efficient equipment operations to transfer, digitise, import, ingest and archive supplied programme media. To convert sourced broadcast content material, according to the South African Broadcasting Corporations Delivery Standards and procedures, ensuring optimal final technical quality of product on air

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF STRATEGY

    • Contribute towards business strategical requirements to implement OPEX and CAPEX plans
    • Contribute in investigating operational business requirements in accordance to functional requirements, workflows, international best practices
    • Provide input into project`s design user workflows and commissioning

     BUSINESS OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY

    Finance Support

    • Assets management control; over sight of tracking and transfers of assets
    • Liaise with manager on stakeholders’ bookings requirements
    • Ensure that all bookings are accurately loaded on ScheduAll

    Managed Operational Performance

    • Maintain above average rating on Service Level Agreement with internal stakeholders (TV News, Sport & TV Channels)
    • Provide effective operational advice & support to stakeholders in order to reduce downtime
    • Attend to all stakeholders queries and complaints within acceptable response time
    • Expert understanding of the technological changes in the broadcast industry and research o give advice on new equipment required.
    • Manage the Dalet and Disaster Recovery (DR)/Ingest servers to ensure optimal storage capacity for daily operations by monitoring, archiving, purging, and managing the movement of all incoming media, including both short-form and long-form content.
    • Conduct testing of equipment during studio upgrades to ensure that the best equipment and software is purchased and is compatible with other internal facilities
    • Provide input in the in-house training manual for interns and Junior staff
    • Develop, test and publish SOPs. Update when required and ensure adherence by Junior staff
    • Assist in checking that work is allocated as per ScheduAll after obtaining booking form from the Coordinator.
    • Assist in the allocation & scheduling of team members to maintain workflow
    • Assist in the preparation of timesheets, overtime payments, telephone billing and freelance payments in accordance with Company policy
    • Assist with the compiling of shift rosters in accordance with resources availability and operational requirements
    • Attend meetings as required.
    • Confirm that facilities are functioning correctly at all times and report daily.
    • Provide input of Technical Specification on the SABC Broadcast Delivery Standard and advice all clients, internally & Externally accordingly
    • Assist in the evaluation of potential IC contractors as a subject matter expert.
    • Check basic operational functions on the Dalet workflow and report inconsistencies
    • Assist in resources and facilities/ broadcast lines as per customer request in order to effectively support special events (Sport - World Cup/League Games; News etc.)
    • Serve on the interview during recruitment process as a subject matter expert
    • Provide hands on training of personnel as the Operational Specialist on duty.
    • Give input as a subject matter expert as to the formal training needs of the more junior staff Mentorship & Coaching of interns during each intake of SABC Internship Program and provide all required documentation to Learning & Development
    • Assist to load Independent Contractors’ contracts on SAP when required.                          

    GOVERNANCE, RISK AND COMPLIANCE

    • Comply with all relevant SABC policies and procedures
    • Comply Media Ingest Operating Procedures (SOP) and monitor the implementation thereof.
    • Develop departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) & Workflows and review

    Quarterly

    • Assist in drafting freelancer requests in compliance with Company HR policy
    • Attend OHS Meetings regularly in representing the department.

    STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT AND CHANGE MANAGEMENT

    • Adhere to agreed SLA with clients and assist management in their drafting
    • Attend meetings with relevant stake holders as required
    • Liaise with technical team on system integration, information sharing, knowledge and skills development
    • Identify customer needs through continual interaction and engagement to provide expert solution driven results and ensure customer needs are met.

     INHERENT/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

      QUALIFICATIONS

    • Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Film and Television or Video Editing

     EXPERIENCE

    • At least 7-8 years’ experience in Media Ingest is required.
    • To have a minimum 3 year service experience as a Senior Ingest Operator or equivalent broadcasting role is essential.

    ADVANTAGES

    • Diploma or Courses in electronics or television production
    • Good Computer proficiency is essential
    • Knowledge and ability to operate the Dalet Galaxy, Dalet Web, Avid Media Composer, and Pebble Beach systems at an expert level
    • Understanding of Media File Formats and Standard

    KNOWLEDGE

    • Knowledge & understanding of technical aspects of transfers
    • Knowledge & understanding of the SABC’s broadcast standards
    • Good colour perception, vision, and hearing
    • Ability to work shifts (night, weekends, and public holidays)
    • Knowledge of SAP and ScheduAll
    • Knowledge & understanding of OHS Act
