    The Role Responsibilities


    Delegation of delegated responsibilities from Head of M&A, Africa:

    • Support the M&A Africa business strategy and budget in the context of M&A strategy.
    • Support the implementation of the M&A client segment strategy, including a global customer value proposition, as a framework within which the client segments and product groups operate and ensuring the CF marketing strategy supports this.
    • Support the delivery of agreed business performance and cost across the M&A Africa business.
    • Support the maintenance of the integrity of client data which is owned by M&A.

    Support product development for M&A Africa.

    • Support the M&A Process Universe allocated to the Head of M&A, AME by the Group's Operational Risk Type Framework (ORTF). Accountable to the risk control owners and/or Group policy owners for implementation of policies and control standards set by them, ensuring compliance and operating within risk tolerance and risk appetite.

    Specific Responsibilities:
    Strategy

    • Support the implementation of M&A Africa client segment strategies, market and positioning strategies, including a global customer value proposition, as a framework within which the client segments and product groups operate and ensuring the M&A Africa marketing strategy supports this. Such strategies must be aligned to the overall strategic direction of CF and the Group as well as the Group Code of Conduct.
    • Work with the Regional teams of Client Coverage and Financial Markets to ensure that the M&A Africa business is aligned with the needs and business plans of Regional and Country operations.
    • Work to meet the clear milestones against which the progress of the M&A Africa strategy implementation is measured.

    Business

    • Support M&A management in setting achievable M&A Africa business global performance targets relating to revenue and costs.
    • Support M&A management in the delivery of agreed business performance and cost across M&A Africa.
    • Support M&A management to drive financial performance and to monitor financial results against targets and manage the cost budget within M&A Africa.
    • Support M&A management to develop a culture which understands and evaluates the constant trade-offs between new business, risk and resource deployment.
    • Support M&A management to ensure the suitability and appropriateness of products through a robust framework and consider material issues at the appropriate governing committees.
    • Support M&A management to maintain and manage a framework to deal with vulnerable clients.
    • Complete mandatory training

    Processes

    • Support M&A management to manage the implementation of policies and control standards set by risk control owners and policy owners, ensuring compliance and operating within risk tolerance and risk appetite. Ensure the adequacy and effectiveness of the systems, controls and procedures relating to M&A Africa, that they are regularly and independently tested, assessed and improved in a timely manner.
    • Support M&A management to drive continuous improvement of the operational efficiency and effectiveness of processes to increase the consistency of global systems and processes.
    • Support M&A management to ensure that systems, controls and procedures are commensurate with the nature, scale and complexity of the M&A Africa business, taking into account of all relevant circumstances (including the external environment).
    • Support M&A management to ensure there is a framework for effective management of operational risks within M&A Africa and compliance with applicable internal policies, and external laws and regulations.
    • Support M&A management to support the delivery of the M&A Africa strategy in a safe and well-controlled manner and on an end-to-end basis - incorporating infrastructure requirements and building a business that is fit-for-growth.

    People and Talent

    • Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations for M&A Africa business and work in collaboration with risk and control partners.

    Risk Management

    • Support the M&A management to ensure there are appropriate frameworks in place so that the M&A Africa business is carried out within the Group's risk appetite and reputational and credit risks are appropriately managed in conjunction with direct reports and other stakeholders.
    • Comply with the highest standards of regulatory conduct and compliance standards and practices as defined by internal and external requirements. This includes compliance with anti-money laundering regulations and guidelines.
    • Ensure any audit and compliance issues relating to the M&A Africa business are resolved in a timely manner.
    • Ensure that Risk Management matters that are brought to the job-holder's attention are subject to direct remedial action and/or escalated, where appropriate to relevant risk committees.

    Governance

    • Enforce a culture of risk management, control and governance, and ensure that Africa M&A complies with the risk management processes in place
    • Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework, in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role

    Ideal Candidate:
    Experience/Qualifications:

    • A Business/Finance related qualification such as an MBA, CA (SA), CFA or FRM is essential.
    • Proven experience in Corporate Finance / Mergers & Acquisitions.
    • Fluent in Financial/Valuation models and techniques such as DDM, LBO, DCF & Merger analysis etc.
    • Full deal cycle exposure is essential: Origination to Execution and Completion.
    • Working knowledge of deal structuring and closing principles.
    • Impeccable research, quantitative, analytical and creative problem-solving skills, especially in explaining market events.
    • Excellent Business English language skills.
