    Principal: Sanlam Private Equity

    Private Equity is a source of investment capital derived from high net worth individuals and institutions for the purpose of directly investing in equity ownership in private companies that are not publically listed.

    What will you do?

    Fund Raising

    • Assist with the design and structuring of new fund
    • Design of pitch books for investors
    • Liaising with SI Marketing and Distribution
    • Identify potential investors
    • Marketing and raising the New Fund
    • Proactively generate new ideas for subsequent funds
    • Maintain a network of investors both locally and internationally
    • Identify opportunities for secondary markets to provide liquidity for investors

    Deal Origination

    • Proactively identify investment opportunities from formal and informal networks
    • Direct sector, company and industry research to be performed by associates to identify and evaluate investment opportunities
    • Engage with potential investee company senior management and shareholders to determine the transaction prospects
    • Communicate potential investment opportunities and strategies to team members

    Deal Evaluation and Execution

    • Overall deal team coordination n order to maintain transaction momentum and adherence to the transaction timetables, which would include, but not limited to:
    • Responsible for all relevant legal documentation with potential investee companies
    • Directing the transaction team's quantitative and qualitative analysis
    • Responsibility for the transaction model inputs and scenarios
    • Managing the engagement with consultants used for company evaluation
    • Assume overall responsibility for investment committee documentation
    • Assume overall responsibility for third party investor reporting

    Deal Execution

    • Overall deal team coordination in order to maintain transaction momentum and adherence to the transaction timetables, which would include, but not limited to:
    • Scoping and managing the due diligence process
    • Full coordination of third party service providers
    • Full budget management
    • Consolidation and communication of all findings to the investment committee

    Portfolio Management

    • Compile quarterly valuations and investment reports on portfolio companies reflecting an in-depth understanding of the company and external market drivers for both internal and external parties
    • Monitor portfolio company performance and anticipate any issues (and suggest any proactive / remedial strategies)
    • Assist the deal team in providing support to portfolio companies at a strategic level
    • Build meaningful relationships with management teams at portfolio companies, including attending and contributing at board meetings
    • Support and coordinate the exit process, provide insight into related exit agreements and contribute opinion regarding timing / exit type, pricing on a regular basis

    Leadership

    • Provide oversight, training, upskilling, coaching and guidance to junior team members
    • Proactively develop a productive personal, proprietary network
    • Upholds the company values in all interactions both internally and externally
       

    What will make you successful in this role?
    The position: Principal

    • Principals take overall responsibility for ensuring all aspects of a deal run according to the investment process. They liaise with all stakeholders, including target company leadership and shareholders, process all information relating to the investment, actively participate in investment committee meetings and are required to demonstrate origination abilities by introducing viable investment opportunities to the business through their networks and pro-active research. Principals also play an active role on portfolio company boards and assist in fundraising and investor relations. Experience in private equity is typically at least 8 years. The candidate must have a track record of raising third party capital, being part of a senior member of the successful team, and a proven network of investors that could help raise the proposed new fund.
       

    Minimum Requirements

    • CA / Actuarial Science / BEng / CFA / Business Science / MBA with strong academic record
    • Minimum 10+ years of investment banking / consulting and private equity experience required
    • 7 years' experience in Financial Services sector in a similar role

    Technical Competencies

    • Solid deal origination network and a demonstrated track record of sourcing proprietary deal flow
    • Robust fundamental and strategic analytical skills, ability to formulate and communicate and investment thesis
    • Strong deal negotiation expertise
    • Hold strong relationships with banks and other finance providers, including potential co-investment partners
    • Strong inter personal skills including the ability to manage and monitor associate and analyst team members
    • Strong fundamental and strategic analytical skills
    • Strong, proven communication skills (written & verbal) and the ability to articulate and frame arguments / points
    • Ability to participate in senior level discussions both within and outside the organisation
    • Strong inter personal skills

    Qualification And Experience

    • CA with 10 years related experience.

    Knowledge And Skills

    • Mergers and Acquisitions
    • Financial risk and governance management
    • Responsible for originating and securing complex private equity investment transactions.
    • Negotiates deals with third parties and will present proposed deals to the Credit Committee.
    • Manages client relationships and requires extensive product knowledge and technical expertise.
