Overall technical responsibility for software, hardware or test activities. Represents L+G interests on standards committees and working groups Ensures L+Gs technical competitiveness in his area
Must keep up-to-date with state-of-the-art technologies and techniques Sharing of knowledge in his/her team and with other L+G departments Work within the defined processes
Line Management: No direct reports, but may coach/mentor other team members
Reports to Reports to Team Leader (R&D Manager) or direct to R&D Head depending on local organization
Note: In some organizations the Team Leader (R&D Manger) and principal engineer roles will be held by the same person

- Other R&D Principal and Specialist Engineers throughout L+G EMEA Project Managers and System Architects/Application Technology Product Management, Contact with technology suppliers, Members of Standards Committees with technology suppliers
Key Tasks
- Architecture for L+G platforms
- Technology scouting to ensure L+G choose the right technologies and techniques for use in the future Support Product Management during the definition of new product ideas and roadmaps Coaching/mentoring of junior team members
- Proof of concept or pre-development project implementation possibly with a small team of engineers
- Member of standards committees or working groups
- Embedded software development for the metering market (mostly done in C/C++)
- A very focused approach towards software quality
- Must have a very analytical approach towards design and debugging
- Must be able to interpret technical documentation and specifications
- Must be able/capable to work with the meter support tools
Experience
- Professional: Minimum of 10 years industrial experience, at least 5 years at senior engineer level. Experience of working in international teams
Education
- General: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject, probably combined with a post-graduate degree or diploma, or Bsc Comp Sci
Languages:
- Must be able to understand and create technical documentation written in English
- Must be able to communicate in English within company internal technical meetings
