Product Designer - Design System at Nedbank

Job Purpose

We are looking for a Product Designer to join the Design Foundation team at Nedbank RBB Digital. As the custodians of all design in production, the Design System team primarily work on building a cohesive, accessible and consistent user experience, both visually and functionally. You will be responsible for the design aspects of the Design System as a product, as well as the stability and integrity of design in production across multiple digital platforms. You will lead the product design process, from UX design, UI design, usability testing, design standards and patterns of the Design System.

Job Responsibilities

• You will define the core elements of the design system, specifying UX, visual, content, interaction and motion elements as well as documenting behaviours, usage guidelines and best practices that will guide how teams design and build products/services.
• You will cultivate internal knowledge around the design system by serving as a subject matter expert to contributing teams who are designing additions to the design system.
• Practice design iteration and take part in the monthly release process by breaking down the designs to fit release cadence, reviewing and approving design delivery.
• Designing, maintaining and supporting of a single/multiple UI libraries, keeping scalability and reuse in mind.
• Help define design philosophy, principles, & standards, and the design direction of the experience, visual style of the Design System.
• Monitor and improve the adoption, enabling and streamlining the experience for DS users.
• Design usage guidelines, reusable components, content standards, and usability documentation provided to the greater organisation and the Nedbank design community as a whole.
• You will collaborate closely with product ownership, engineering, business stakeholders and other design professionals to iterate on and refine the existing and future UI and UX.
• Participating in the monthly release process by breaking down design output to fit release cadence, planning, aligning, reviewing, and approving design implementation throughout the path to production.
• Measure and communicate the overall "asset health" in production through data and analytics. Understand UX debt, plan and coordinate the avoidance and resolution thereof.
• Formulate testing/measurement parameters to effectively assess and track the stability and quality of user experience, usability, and accessibility.
• Keep design components/libraries and kits available and up to date, actively evolve and maintain the design system.
• Participate in design reviews, giving and receiving feedback in an appropriate way.
• Collaborate with our research and　user　testing capabilities to effectively assess user experience.
• Consider user feedback from user testing results in order to deliver the best customer experience.　Conducting best practice research to develop and improve UI and interaction design to solve end user problems effectively.　Conduct competitor research to develop and improve features of products and to balance user needs, technical constraints, and business objectives to solve user problems effectively.

Minimum Experience Level

• 4-5+ years Senior UI & UX/Product design – design system experience Design experience 

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

• Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
• Design Certification from an accredited Design School

Type of Exposure

• Solid understanding of design tools: Sketch
• Solid knowledge and experience of prototyping
• Basic front-end development understanding (HTML & CSS) 
• Basic understanding of product development life cycles and methodologies (Agile, Lean etc) 
• Experience in design practice of Omni-channel product development so as to attain seamless UX through service design thinking practice.
• Working experience within a Design system team

Technical / Professional Knowledge

• Deep understanding of Interaction Design and User experience design principles and standards
• Deep understanding of colour, typography and layout
• Deep understanding of User-Centred　Design
• Deep understanding and working experience with OS Guidelines and patterns (iOS, Android and Responsive web etc.)
