    Product & Underwriting Manager

    About the Role 

    • As a Product & Underwriting Manager some of your key responsibilities will include:

    Underwriting Agreement :

    • overseeing the negotiations and renewing the underwriting & risk acceptance mandate with Insurers and ensuring that the Product Managers are advising the business appropriately.

    Underwriting Manager:

    • underwriting & risk acceptance for all underwriting queries and where escalated from the Underwriting Managers outside our mandate and negotiate with Insurers.

    Branch Liaison:

    • Overseeing any underwriting or portfolio management concerns from the branches. May require branch visits re product and underwriting compliance.

    Policy Wordings:

    • ensure policy wordings provide competitive differentiators in line with strategic objectives of the division.

    System alignment with Products:

    • overseeing and managing that products are set up in the policy administration system correctly with regards to cover, library of endorsements, excesses, accounting, compliance (FAIS Disclosures), library of standard letters, important notes and policy schedules.

    Client communication and printing:

    • arranging for bulk printing and posting of client communication – renewals, rate increases, et cetera.

    AMARP Run:

    • overseeing and checking and signing off the AMARP run.

    Accounting :

    • dealing with queries in month end balancing, Insurers bordereaux, Insurers payment and premium allocation queries.

    Renewal process:

    • Overseeing and managing the renewal process ensuring renewal premium targets are achieved in line with Insurer agreements.
    • Ensuring FAIS compliancy.

    Client Needs Analysis :

    • overseeing and managing of the documentation ensuring these are updated by the Product Managers and are structured according to TCF and regulatory compliance.

    Audits :

    • facilitation of audits conducted by Insurers and Sasria and any other parties. Ensure any non-compliant actions and suggested improvements are actioned.

    Reports:

    • Insurer requirements are managed through this channel and distributed to the appropriate key individuals.

    Internal audit:

    • analysis, response, and corrective action in respect of weaknesses identified in internal audit reports.

    Quality risk & compliance:

    • liaising with by IIS quality risk and compliance officer on updates for legislative compliance.

    Portfolio Management:

    • Manage the Portfolio Management team and all binder books loss ratio to their acceptable levels. By implementing the Insurers requirements and meeting with their expectations at the same time as client retention and rehabilitation.

    Cooperation with PPS employees:

    • ensuring high quality, efficient and compliant delivery of all client servicing administrative and transactional activities.
    • Maintain close working relationships with client management and mind management teams:
    • Staff engagement and development

    Role-specific Technical Skills, Knowledge and Experience

    Qualifications

    • Grade 12 (matric)
    • A relevant bachelor's degree will be preferable
    • Registration with the FSCA in terms of the FAIS ACT.

    Knowledge

    • High level of technical knowledge
    • Well-developed knowledge of the industry sector/territory
    • A broad knowledge of Aon
    • Advanced computer literacy in MS Word and Excel.

    Skills and Attributes

    • Above average fluency in written and spoken English
    • Well developed written and spoken communication skills
    • Good interpersonal skills
    • Well developed team management and team functioning skills
    • Advacned analytical, technical and problem-solving skills

    Experience

    • A minimum of 7 to 10 years' experience in a similar or related role
    • A proven record of successful business experience in a similar or related environment.
