    Professional Nurse Counsellor

    Purpose of the position:

    To provide a comprehensive mobile health service by providing HIV testing and counselling services linked to screening and diagnosing clients for TB and STIs. To provide treatment and clinical care to HIV & TB patients and ensure successful linkage to care and adherence, with a specific focus on the sex worker.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • Grade 12
    • Degree/diploma or relevant nursing qualification
    • NIMART trained & certified
    • 2-years’ experience in nursing after registration
    • Clinical HIV management experience is mandatory
    • Dispensing licence
    • Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a professional nurse
    • Computer literate in MS office
    • Valid code 8 driver’s licence
    • Proficiency in English and another South African language
    • Clear criminal record

    Duties and Responsibilities    

    • Develop a presentation outlining TB/HIV service provision
    • Coordinate visits to sex work community on outreach with collaborating organisation team
    • Maintain relations with managers by providing feedback on number of clients seen at sites
    • Mobilise with team in walk and talk programmes, distribute pamphlets
    • Provide an enhanced appropriate package of treatment care and support of clients diagnosed with HIV, TB, STIs, and other health related conditions
    • Order monthly stock of medications needed for wellness and HCT programmes
    • Conduct physical examination and proper history taking on clients seen on the mobile.
    • Provide appropriate syndromic treatment for STIs, fertility planning and other health related illness.
    • Ensure accurate documentation of stock in and stock out
    • Keep records of medication dispensed
    • Provide health/HIV screen to allocated areas every 3 to 6 months
    • Reach successful referrals of 90% for HIV positive clients pre-ART and ART
    • Provide technical assistance in HIV counselling and recording
    • Train to complete the PI VCT register and monthly report new cases.
    • Compile and maintain a record on the confirmed clinic the clients will attend and document referral or LTF using tools and algorithm
    • Regular tracing of clients by telephone, home visits or other
    • Collaborate with community role-players in engaging scaling up of TB/HIV service provision
    • Meet quarterly with local GPs and other stakeholder/NGOs on TB/HIV service provision
    • Meet quarterly to collaborate in developing and conducting support groups with collaborating organisation
    • Meet quarterly to report on progress
    • Maintain relations with health services and other NGOs working to support programme
    • Attend HAST information meetings
    • Report quarterly on programme progress
    • Meet quarterly with facility managers on site activities
    • Appropriate referral of all the necessary health related conditions needing further management - ART, psychosocial, substance abuse, gender based violence, etc
    • Submit monthly report on the number of new cases
    • Weekly follow-up on referred clients by telephone, home visits or other
    • Document successful referrals above 90%
    • Adhere to waste disposal
    • Adhere to needle stick injury policy
    • Engage in sex work support work including helping coordinate and/or manage support groups
    • Participate in sex work’s support meetings and structures as directed by Key Populations Programme Manager
    • Participate in clinic sensitivity trainings
    • Tracking and monitoring success of project
    • Any other duties as assigned by the line manager
