Grade 12 with basic qualification accredited with the SANC in terms of Government Notice R425 (i.e. Diploma / Degree in Nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse, must have a basic qualification in Psychiatric Nursing Science. Registration certificate with SANC as a Professional Nurse and current practicing certificate.
Less than 10 years relevant experience as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing . Advance psychiatric qualification will be an added advantage.
Experience in mental health nursing will be an added advantage.A valid driver’s license will be an added advantage. Knowledge of mental health legislations and related legal and ethical practices, PFMA and Public Service Act and Regulations.
Good communication, interpersonal, financial and human resource management skills. Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary context. Analytical thinking, independent decision making and problem-solving skills.
Able to plan and organize own work.

Duties :
Provision of quality community mental health care services (Mental Health promotion and prevention interventions, and community intervention, clinical work, medication monitoring and psychosocial rehabilitation within a recovery framework for severe mental illnesses. Detection and stepped approach to management and referral of depression and anxiety disorders in PHC allocated clinics.
Detection and management of child and adolescent disorders in allocated clinics and community level (schools) and referral where appropriate. Routine screening for mental illnesses during pregnancy and other identified high risk group services, and a stepped approach to management and referrals).
Clinical teaching, training, and evaluation of mental health. Provision of administrative services (stats and report writing). Provision of mental health clinical services. Management of Resources.
