    Professional Nurse Specialty: Advanced Midwifery

    Requirements :

    • ERRATUM (Number of posts moved from 1 to 2). Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse.
    • A post basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with SANC in Advance Midwifery and Neonatology. Current registration with the SANC as professional nurse.
    • A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. Demonstrate effective communication with patients, supervisors and other clinicians, including report writing when required. Able to plan and organize own work and that of support personnel to ensure proper maternal and neonatal care.
    • Ability to work independently and innovatively. Knowledge of legal prescripts that regulate nursing and health services. Decision making and problem-solving abilities within the limit of the public sector and institutional policy framework.

    Duties :

    • Provide holistic specialized nursing care within set standards and a legal/professional framework. To develop and ensure implementation of nursing care plans. To participate in quality improvement programmes and clinical audit. Maintain accreditation standards through quality improvement and infection control standards and guidelines.
    • To uphold the Batho Pele and patients’ rights charter principles. Maintain accurate and complete patient records according to legal requirements. Participate in staff, students and patients teaching.
    • Ensure ongoing education and in-service training of EMTCT, BFHI and ESMOE. Participate in the implementation of priority programmes to reduce morbidity and mortality rate, communicable and non-communicable diseases.
    • Ensure the use of Maternal and Child updated protocols and guidelines in the hospital. Demonstrate a basic understanding of HR and financial policies and practices by proper management of resources (human, material, and financial). Act as shift leader in the unit (where necessary).
