Matric certificate, Basic R425 qualification (i.e., Diploma/ Degree in Nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse.
A post-basic Nursing qualification in Ophthalmology/Operating Theatre Nursing Science, accredited by the SANC in terms of Government Notice No. R212, with a duration of at least one year.
A minimum of 4 years’ appropriate/recognisable experience in Nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. Current registration with SANC for 2026.
Duties :
Provision of optimal, holistic, specialized nursing care, pre- and post-operative. Prepare theatre, medical equipment, and consumables according to booked operations. Adherent to basic principles of Infection Prevention and Control.
Ensure that Nursing care provided is within the scope of practice of all nurses and the legal framework. Ability to liaise with different units for pre-operative and post-operative optimization of quality patient care.
Demonstrate basic understanding of nursing legislation and related legal and ethical nursing practices. Have knowledge of the Ideal Hospital Realisation Framework. Be familiar with Patient Safety Incidents (PSI) guidelines and the processes of reporting PSI. Ability to perform nursing administrative duties, including shift leading and relieving the Operational Manager. Must be willing to workday and night shifts.
Effective and efficient utilisation of human and material resources. Display Professionalism and adherence to nursing professional ethics. Maintain professional growth, ethical standards, and self-discipline. Participate in training and research. Provision to support nursing services by mentoring trained ophthalmic/theatre professional nurses to improve service delivery in the theatre.".
