Professional Nurse Specialty Grade 1,2 (Advanced Midwifery And Neonatal Nursing) PNB1
Basic qualification accredited with South African Nursing Council in terms of Government Notice 425 i.e. Diploma/Degree in Nursing as a professional nurse or equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as a professional Nurse and a Diploma in midwifery.
Post-Basic Nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year, accredited with SANC in terms of Government Notice No. R212/R635 in the specialized area (Midwifery).
GR1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognizable experience in Nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
GR 2:GR1:A minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognizable experience in Nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
At least 10 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognizable experience after obtaining the 1 year post basic qualification in the relevant specialty. Competencies: Leadership, Management and Communication skills. Ability to take charge, leading the shifts and mentor midwives in the unit. Display concern for patients, promoting and advocating proper treatment and care including awareness and willingness to respond to patient’s needs, requirements and expectations (Batho Pele Principles).
Able to plan and organize own work and that of support personnel to ensure proper nursing care. Knowledge of grievance and disciplinary procedure. Knowledge of infection prevention and control and occupational health and safety practices. Understanding of Health Legal framework governing the nursing practice.Provision of optimal, holistic specialized nursing care services with set standards and ensure compliance with recommendations of the Saving Mothers and Babies report. Manage effectively the utilization of resources. i.e. Human, Material and monitoring of the services.
Provision of support on nursing services, assisting with the relief of duties of the supervisor and acting as a shift leader on both day and night shifts, to partake in overall specialized unit functions.
Perform a clinical nursing practice in accordance with the scope of practice and Nursing standards. Maintain professional growth/ethical standards and self-development.
Promote quality nursing care as directed by the Professional scope of practice and standard. Participate in preparation and attend maternal and morbidity meetings monthly.
Provide in-service education in managing maternal and neonatal complications, including drills. Ensure compliance with Ideal Hospital Realization Framework guidelines, Office of Health Standards Compliance (OHSC), PSI and Complaints Management.
