A Basic R425 qualification (i.e. Diploma / Degree in Nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse. Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse and proof of current registration.
A post-basic nursing qualification with duration of at least one year, accredited with SANC in Psychiatry. A minimum of four years appropriate / recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
Duties :
Demonstrate an understanding of nursing legislation and related legal and ethical nursing practices. Work as part of the multidisciplinary team to ensure good nursing care.
Perform clinical nursing in accordance with the scope of practice and nursing standards as determined by the health facility. Promote quality of nursing care as directed by the professional scope of practice and standards as determined by the health facility. Demonstrate effective communication with patients, supervisors and other clinicians, including report writing when required. Work effectively, co-operatively and amicably with people of diverse intellectual, cultural, and racial or religious differences. Able to plan and organise own work and that of support personnel to ensure proper nursing care.
Display a concern for patients, promoting and advocating proper treatment and care including awareness and willingness to respond to patient’s needs, requirements and expectations (Batho Pele principles). Provide direction and supervision for the implementation of the nursing care plan (clinical practices / quality patient care). Implement standards, practices, criteria and indicators for quality nursing with the prevention of serious adverse events. Practice nursing and health care in accordance with the laws and regulations relevant to nursing and health care.
Maintain a constructive working relationship with nursing and other stakeholders. Participate in the development of protocols and SOPs in the unit. Demonstrate knowledge on the use of medical equipment and control and repairs of such equipment. Display leadership and supervisory skills. Demonstrate decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Effective utilization of material and human resources. Ability to manage financial and budget allocated to the department. Display effective conflict and complaint management skills. Adherence to the Ideal Hospital Realization Framework. Ability to identify risks and patient safety incidents and manage accordingly. Compliance to PMDS and CPD requirements. Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment is created for patients, staff and public.
