Professional Nurse Specialty: Primary Health Care (PNB1)
Grade 12/Matric Certificate. Basic R425 qualification (i.e., Diploma/Degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse. Post basic nursing qualification, with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with SANC in terms of Government notice no R212. Current SANC Registration (2026).
Grade 1: Minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognizable experience in Nursing after registration as Professional nurse with the SANC in General nursing plus a post basic nursing qualification with duration of at least 1 year accredited with the SANC in the specialty of Primary Health Care. Certificate in ESMOE training will be an added advantage.
Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing.
At least 10 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/ recognisable experience in the PHC speciality after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification in the relevant specialty.
Duties :
Demonstrate an understanding of nursing legislation and related legal and ethical nursing practises. Provide and Promote quality nursing care as directed by the professional scope of practice and standards.
Provide Primary Health Care through implementation of a comprehensive nursing care plan/program. Demonstrate effective communication with patients, supervisors and other clinicians. Ensure compliance to infection control principles and waste management guidelines. Ensure compliance to Ideal Clinic Realization Framework guidelines. Delegate duties to support staff in the execution of patient care service. Provide direct and indirect supervision of all nursing staff and support staff.
Effective utilization of resources: Human Resources, material resources and financial resources. Assist with the relief of duties and act as shift-leader on extended hours of service. Partake on overall specialized unit functions, i.e., team building, Maintain professional growth/ethical standards and self-development. Participate in preparation of monthly continuous medical education (CME).
