Project Accountant at Rand Merchant Bank

Purpose of the role:

The purpose of this role is to identify, formulate and coordinate, programme and project budget requirements across the Markets Technology and Operations area, as well as the impact of programmes and projects within RMB and the wider Group, leveraging a solutionist mindset where applicable. The role services Project nXt Steering Committee Exco members and works with Functional/Business Heads to define a clear business case for change and the tangible metrics for success of all transformative initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Business Case Validation & Investment Recommendation

• SME leadership for Project (especially and including nXt) business case across the programme and for each phase;  
• Performance baselining across all project phases;  
• Develop business scenarios and management insights;
• Review, validate and/or create of business cases (financial) supporting the implementation of new initiatives and phases within these;
• Self-management and team work within a project team and appropriate governance structures;
• Liaise with internal and external advisors and stakeholders on strategic projects;
   

Business strategy formulation and execution

• The ability to translate strategy into tactics and action plans;
• Come up with strategies based on responses to developing conditions;
• Unearth alternative approaches, solutions or methods;
• Able to imagine a variety of possible systems and practices that impact on thinking about strategy;
• Takes advice from functional experts regarding best practices;
• Able to think through the effect of different inter-dependencies;
• Integrate opinions and information provided by various sources to make strategic decisions;    
• Action items and key issues requiring resolution by assisting the business to address strategic problems and answer strategic questions; monitor to ensure actions are completed by the right people at the right time; 

Required qualifications and Experience: 

• CA (SA) or CIMA qualification with 2-3 years’ experience in similar role with exposure to financial control or month-end accounting 
• 3 - 5 years Project Accounting experience 
• Experience with project budgeting , forecasting
• Experience with long term projects
