    Propagations Lead

    What you will do at Fall Creek:

    • Partner with propagation team of planters, and team leaders and offering them necessary leadership and direction within the department. 

    • Full accountability of SAP administration, movements and planning.  

    • Monitor and control all activities within the plant propagation area,

    • Apply effective agronomist principles in producing a world class plant.

    • Under direction, assists with the growing of the TC crop(s). This includes operating and monitoring controls and equipment and maintaining sanitation levels established by protocols.

    • Trains, supervises, organizes and monitors the work of employees and temporary personnel within assigned teams. Keeps the planting crews stocked with cuttings. Makes impartial decisions in regards to scheduling work. Consistently applies work rules to all employees. Notifies management of problems or potential issues.

    • Accurately reports and records work activities of propagation. Ensures break periods start and end on time. Assists with organizing workflow and work efficiency.

    • Demonstrates respectful communication and interactions with crews, other supervisors, and managers. Motivates employees to do their best work by being positive and offering encouragement.

    • Performs all work activities and promotes work crews to perform work in a safe and efficient manner. Brings potential hazards to the immediate attention of management or the safety committee. Immediately reports accidents, injuries and near-misses to management. Enforces the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when completing tasks (ear plugs/muffs, gloves, boots, safety glasses, etc.).

    • Collects, enters, and tracks planting data and other information in a timely and accurate manner. Ensures plants are labeled correctly.

    • Assists with inventory of plants, supplies, and materials and the tracking and reporting of information on SAP

    • Prepares propagated material for shipment as directed or transfer to the production department according to timeline,

    • Assists with monitoring plant quality by watching for unusual plant appearance, plant diseases or signs of stress, pests, or other potential problems with the crop. Notifies management in a timely manner.

    • Assists with after-hours events such as weather-related issues, power outages, and other emergencies as needed.

    • Makes sure equipment is in proper operating condition and immediately notifies the manager if repairs are needed.

    • Assists with keeping work areas and the overall appearance of the facility clean and organized. Which will include control of inventory, ordering of critical stocks, and other necessary consumables.

    • Ensures keys and lock codes are protected and used only for business purposes.

    •  Attends meetings on-site and remotely on a regular basis. 

    • Performs other general labor duties as assigned.

    • Assures the highest level of confidentiality on sensitive matters concerning the nursery.

    • The supervisor reports to the Propagator and supervise work teams, to make sure that the transplanting, fertilizing, irrigation, storage, and shipment plans for the propagation plant department are effectively executed at all times.

    • This function is a key role in the supervision of all propagation processes, and will work in close collaboration with the production department

    • Nursery and greenhouse setting. Late shift, weekend and work over the holidays may be required. Requires working around agricultural chemicals. May have access to restricted/locked areas.

    • Director reports: Propagations Team Leader, all propagation planters & associated workers. Work teams maybe include Fall Creek employees, labour contractors and other temporary personnel during seasonal periods.

    What you bring to Fall Creek:

    • A minimum of Grade 12 plus 3-5+ years’ horticultural work experience or in similar role,

    • Minimum of Grade 12,

    • Other relevant ND / Degree in Agriculture (advantageous) 

    • Bilingual in English and Afrikaans

    • Excellent reading, writing, arithmetic skills

    • Experience using an ERP system (SAP or similar) is compulsory. 

    • Strong alpha numeric data entry skills.

    • Computer Skills.

    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

    • Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks; excellent time management, organizational, problem-prevention and problem-solving skills.

    • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to actively listen.

    • Ability to collaborate with other team members and maintain a positive attitude.

    • Must be able to exercise good judgment working in a nursery setting

    • Regular and reliable attendance at the primary place of business – Paarl

    • Must demonstrate professional and ethical business practices, adherence to company values, and a commitment to personal and professional development.
