    RD&A Scientist

    About the role

    • To support R&D projects through the development process working with the wider R&D Team to ensure delivery of the projects in a timely manner. Responsible for product development from initiation to launch conferring with Senior Scientists / RD&A Managers where appropriate. Interacts with process engineers, flavour experts, sales staff, marketing and End Use Market team, suppliers, manufacturing, customers and packaging and marketing specialists to resolve problems. 

    Key responsibilities

    • Understands key commercial requirements of the taste and nutrition industry. Implements industry recognised methods. Keeps up to date on best practice requirements. 
    • Conducts sensory testing and application screening to support new solutions. 
    • Ensures that ingredient functionality into final products fits the purpose of the customer. 
    • Develops food system formulations and related applications stability performance through demonstrated understanding of food formulation and chemical interactions. 
    • Interacts and troubleshoots with customers on application concerns. 
    • Develops application knowledge within assigned food categories and becomes recognised as a solutions partner by food product developers. Assists customers with technical issues that may arise. 
    • Participates in designated RD&A projects. Ensures appropriate documentation of experimental trials and outcomes to facilitate scale up and product transfer to manufacturing. 
    • Ensures that good laboratory practices and lab protocols are being met in line with Global. Evolves record documentation and methodology into appropriate database. 
    • Maintains laboratory, raw material stock and evaluates new materials for product development. 
    • Builds further scientific knowledge through interactions with senior scientists and subject matter experts, literature reviews, regulatory monitoring, and application studies. Sources external literature to guide thinking on specific projects. 
    • Establishes strong relationships with selected academic researchers and universities to strengthen the use of application abilities and pilot plant capabilities to strengthen Kerry as an industry leader.  
    • Interacts with customers to demonstrate Kerry capabilities.  

    Qualifications and skills

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a food manufacturing setup with experience in snack seasoning design.   
    • Diploma/ Degree in Food Science/ Technology. 
    • Computer literate 
    • Excellent communicator 
    • Self-starter / enthusiastic 
    • Methodical / attention to detail 
    • Multitasker
