Senior/National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Independent Practice (Medical Practitioner).
Proof of current registration with the HPCSA from 01 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. Successful completion of the CMSA Surgical Primary examinations and General Surgery Intermediate examinations will be added advantage.
This is a joint appointment between the University of Pretoria (Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Paediatric Surgery) and Steve Biko Academic Hospital.
Duties :
The functions of this positions encompass aspects of patient care, education, training and research (must participate in original basic or clinical research). The service aspects include ensuring correct surgical treatment of paediatric patients in the public sector.
The duties also include covering afterhours emergencies. The academic programme will include attendance and participation in the different post graduate meetings.
This position is intended for grooming candidates who are pursuing a career in paediatric surgery.
