Post graduate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa ( HPCSA) as a Registered Counselor. Current proof of registration with the HPCSA.
Experience : Grade 1: None after the registration with (HPCSA)as a Registered Counselor.
Grade 2: A minimum of 8 years appropriate experience as Counsellor after the registration with (HPCSA)as a Registered Counselor.
Grade 3: A minimum of 16 years appropriate experience as Counsellor after the registration with (HPCSA)as a Registered Counselor.
Duties:
Screening for mental illness and/or risks to mental health. Liaise with community-based organisations involved in the mental well-being of communities. Implementing programs to enhance personal functioning.
Reduce the need for long-term intensive psychotherapy. Provide support to primary health care services, such as providing psychoeducation on teenage pregnancy, substance abuse and self-harm. Focus on early intervention to mitigate crisis situations. Provide debriefing to patients. Provide solution focused therapy for individuals, couples or families.
Referring of patients to higher-level of care when necessary. Provide preventative and promotional counselling services at primary healthcare level of care. Provide preventative and emotional counselling services to patients, couples and families closer to their homes.
Providing psychoeducation on teenage pregnancy, substance abuse and self harm. Promote health well-being in schools, early child developmental centres and hospices. Provide report to the Clinical Head.
