Reinsurance Underwriting Assistant at Santam Insurance

What will you do?

• The Santam Reinsurance team has a position available for an Reinsurance Underwriting Assistant who will be based in our offices at Tygerpark, Cape Town.

Principle Accountabilities Include

• The core responsibility for this role will be to support the Territorial Head and Reinsurance Underwriting team in the underwriting and management of the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) portfolio, by providing analytical and administrative support. The day to day tasks will involve:
• Analysing and assessing reinsurance treaties, using a range of actuarial, statistical and accounting principles
• Analysing contract wordings
• Provide administrative support ensuring our service levels remain high.
• Work independently on research projects throughout the year
• Updating and managing internal databases / reports for CEE region
• Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders by communication and by travelling with the Territorial Head on market visits and to reinsurance conferences
• This role requires strong technical ability together with interpersonal skill and the ability to market Santam Reinsurance internationally

Qualification And Experience

• Undergraduate qualification (with a strong focus on mathematics or statistics)
• Post graduate qualification would be advantageous
• Polish or Russian would be advantageous
• Candidates with up to 0 - 3 years’ experience will be considered
• Willingness to work over the Christmas and Easter Holiday period
• Willingness to travel internationally once trained

Knowledge

• Ability to analyse data, draw conclusions and make recommendations
• Ability to analyse contract wordings, draw conclusions and make recommendations
• Candidate needs to be comfortable working with Excel , MS Word and PowerPoint
• High level of numerical ability
• Knowledge of the Reinsurance industry is advantageous
• Knowledge of the insurance or financial services industry
• Ability to write in a professional manner
• Ability to be proactive and take ownership of tasks
