    Research and Early Development Scientist II

    The Opportunity

    • Roche Diagnostics Cape Town invites applications for an exciting opportunity to join the Research and Early Development (RED) team as a permanent Scientist II. As a successful candidate, you will work within the RED group and report directly to a RED Team Lead.

    Purpose

    • The RED group is responsible for the conceptualization and development of a strategically aligned portfolio of products for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) applications and associated solutions. This position will require you to be a creative problem solver, critical thinker and be able to create collaborative relationships across the organisation to solve technical problems and conceptualise innovative solutions.

    Key challenges

    As the successful candidate you will be required to:

    • Carry out high-level and early-stage proof-of-concept research to explore and validate new product ideas
    • Contribute to a multidisciplinary team that is dedicated to developing innovative, world-class products for the NGS market
    • Conduct regular project progress reviews to communicate key findings, conclusions and implications to the project team
    • Keep detailed records of all experiments and project-related information
    • Keep abreast of advances in peer reviewed publications and the marketplace    

    Who you are

    Qualifications and Educational Requirements

    • An advanced degree in Biological/Life Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Genetics or related field - Honour’s or Master’s Degree in Science is preferred.
    • Minimum of two to three years' (or equivalent) experience in biotechnology.
    • Experience as a wet-lab scientist is required.

    Knowledge, Skills or Abilities:

    • Knowledge of NGS applications or a proven molecular biology background will be beneficial.
    • Strong communication skills (oral and written) with the ability to present at all functional levels.
    • Ability to collaborate and deliver in a complex global organisation, strong team work.
    • The ideal candidate will be action oriented and excited to find solutions to complex, evolving problems.
    • Analytical, problem solving, stress and time management skills.
