Ruby on Rails Engineer at Salt South Africa

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the development of scalable web applications using Ruby on Rails.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement new features for web and mobile platforms.
• Maintain and optimize frontend functionality using JavaScript frameworks like Turbo and Stimulus.
• Manage integrations with third-party services, including Twilio, SendGrid, and Stripe.
• Ensure stability, security, and scalability of the cloud infrastructure hosted on Heroku and AWS.
• Contribute to database management and optimization using AWS Aurora for MySQL.
• Enforce code quality and security standards, with tools like Brakeman and Dependabot for code analysis.
• Oversee CI/CD practices, including automated testing and pull request reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers and conduct code reviews.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years as a Full Stack Engineer with strong Ruby on Rails expertise.
• Proficiency in JavaScript (jQuery, Stimulus).
• Database management experience, especially with MySQL or AWS.
• Familiarity with Heroku, AWS services, and infrastructure as code (Terraform).
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and GitHub workflows.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to code quality.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Experience with third-party services like Twilio, SendGrid, Stripe, and CarFax.
• Familiarity with Airbrake, NewRelic, ElasticSearch, Redis, and Memcached.
• Knowledge of mobile web app development and responsive design.
• Experience with Dealer Management Systems (DMS) and vehicle data integrations.
