Safety Officer at Murray & Roberts

Introduction

• Murray & Roberts Cementation invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Safety Officer to be placed in Karee 3 Marikana. The successful candidate will report to the Risk Coordinator. The company will provide remuneration and benefits relevant and appropriate to the position. Preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) candidates. Applications only open to South African Citizens / Permanent Residents.

Job description

• The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
•        Effective cost control through efficient safety management practices
•        Effective self-management in alignment with MRC values and leadership initiatives
•        Effective stakeholder engagement to ensure smooth workflows.
•        Accurate, timely completion of Safety Officer's Inspection and Logbook
•        Accurate, timely, thorough investigations of incidents / accidents
•        Proactive risk mitigation and compliance
•        Monitoring the effectiveness of the campaigns, codes of practice and proactive measures which have been put in place to support the Business Management System Effective self-management in alignment with M&RC’s value

Minimum requirements

• Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
• Grade 12 or equivalent
• National Diploma in Safety / Risk Management or equivalent at NQF Level 6 [advantageous]
• Trade Certificate / Blasting Certificate
• SAMSOC 1 & 2
• Investigation / Tap Root training (preferred)
• Audit certification for ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001
• Good English verbal and written communication skills

Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

•        At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role in the mining sector
•        Ability to conduct investigations and record findings
•        Experience in relevant safety principles and systems
