    Section Engineering Manager – Shutdowns

    Company Description

    We have an exciting position for a Section Engineering Manager – Shutdowns who will be responsible to ensure that all operational shutdown work activities are concluded within time, budget and to the Anglo American and industry standards

    Kumba Iron Ore 

    We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing across the world. Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape. 

    Job Description

    Your responsibilities as a Section Engineering Manager – Shutdowns is to: 

    • Consistently ensure the application of all safety, health and environmental principals during planning and execution of all shutdown related activities.

    • Ensure adequate risk identification, mitigation and controls are in place for all shutdown activities – ensuring that all critical controls are in place.

    • Manage and lead all health, safety and environmental efforts – maintaining a visible presence.

    • Ensure effective performance of all direct reports, i.e. Supervisors, Artisans and Contractors.

    • Manage and lead team performance to attain set business objectives and targets.

    • Ensure all personnel engaging in shutdown activities are trained and competent to do so. 

    • Ensure effective shutdown scheduling in accordance with the Mine’s master operating schedule (MOS) is in place.

    • Ensure effective planning is conducted in accordance with the integrated planning and operating model (IPOM).

    • Ensure effective work management during shutdown execution in accordance with the operating model (OM).

    • Provide inputs into annual budget cycles. 

    • Ensure compliance to all procedures, standards and technical requirements as outlined by Anglo American. 

    • To ensure that the allocated area is always clean & good housekeeping practices are applied to ensure a hazard free environment.

    This role is in the AS & R (Engineering) Department at a Band 6 level reporting to the Manager AS & R (Engineering)

    Qualifications

    • BTech / Degree (NQF Level 6) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

    • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) – Mines & Works

    • Valid Driver’s License

    • Computer literacy (MS Office, i.e. Excel, Word, Power Point and Projects)

    Experience:

    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering in Mining industry

    • Experience Project Management

    • Experience in maintenance of OC machinery and/or processing plants

    • Experience working with ERP / SAP will be advantageous
