Section Manger Occupational Hygiene at Anglo American

Job Description:

You will effectively provide technical support in the execution of the Group Occupational Hygiene strategy and will be responsible for the below:

• Consistently apply Safety & Health principles in all team interactions.
• Operational planning - establishing projects for key improvement initiatives.
• Work Management - performing MHSA Section 12 work on sites, Conduct pre-operational occupational hygiene work on Mining Projects.
• Capturing emerging trends and gap analysis and proposing implementable early interventions/controls to Operations.
• Seek opportunities to improve HR business processes in area of responsibility by identifying and communicating more effective ways to operate in order to address business needs.
• Manage compliance of the teams within work area with external (legislative, regulatory, permitting) local requirements as a minimum level of site performance.
• Adhere to Anglo American compliance requirements and ensure compliance of teams within work area.
• Conduct investigation of incidents (safety, health, environmental and social) within work area.
• Support the implementation of Occupational Hygiene systems at Mining operations.
• Will be responsible for Underground Mine ventilation planning and ensure compliance to plan
• Management of Occupational Hygiene department, Ventilation and Emergency Preparedness & response/Business Continuity Management.
• Budget control and people development.

This role is in the Safety and Sustainable Development department at a Band 6 level reporting to the Senior SHE Manager.

Qualifications:

• Tertiary qualification (NQF Level 6) in Environmental Engineering, Occupational Hygiene or Ventilation Engineering or related science.
• Certificate in Mine Environmental Control [MEC].
• Certified Occupational Hygienist or Member of the Mine Ventilation Society of South Africa - advantageous.

Experience:

• At least 7 years post qualification experience in in senior position - Occupational Hygienist/Vent Engineer.
• At least 5 years of which were in a mining environment – underground ventilation design, underground emergency preparedness and response.
