    Section Surveyor - Surface (REF: IVP-MTS-2616)

    Job Description

    • IVANPLATS (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is advancing the development of its world-class palladium-rhodium-nickel-copper-gold project in the Limpopo Province near Mokopane. This unique mineral deposit will be exploited using large mechanised state-of-the-art underground mining methods, deploying the latest technology to   develop this “mine of the future”. Suitably qualified and experienced candidates are invited to apply for the following vacancies required for the project development.

     Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

    • National Diploma/Diploma in Surveying, Geomatics or Engineering Surveying (NQF Level 6), or equivalent; an advanced qualification is advantageous.
    • SAGC registration in Engineering Surveying at the appropriate category, or eligibility to register.
    • Valid Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC), valid driver's licence and medical fitness for a mining environment.
    • Sound knowledge of MHSA Chapter 17, survey QA/QC, GNSS and control networks, engineering surveying, UAV photogrammetry, laser scanning and CAD/GIS applications

     Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

    • Minimum seven years' relevant surveying experience, including at least three years in mining or major construction.
    • Proven experience in survey control, engineering setting-out, earthworks and volume calculations, as-built surveys and contractor quantity verification.
    • Supervisory experience is required; practical UAV, photogrammetry, laser-scanning and point-cloud-processing experience will be advantageous.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to: 

    • Lead, plan and prioritise daily, weekly and month-end surface survey activities in support of mining, construction and infrastructure development.
    • Establish, verify and maintain survey control networks, benchmarks, GNSS systems, surface plans and spatial records.
    • Set out and independently verify civil, structural, mining and service infrastructure against approved designs and tolerances.
    • Complete topographical, earthworks, stockpile, as-built and quantity surveys, and issue accurate and traceable results within reporting deadlines.
    • Verify contractor surveys, quantities, claims and design compliance, and record and resolve identified deviations.
    • Manage UAV surveys, laser scanning and point-cloud processing, while ensuring safety, accuracy, QA/QC and effective supervision of employees and contractors.
