    Senior Surveyor x3 (REF: IVP-MTS- 2615)

    Job Description

    • IVANPLATS (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is advancing the development of its world-class palladium-rhodium-nickel-copper-gold project in the Limpopo Province near Mokopane. This unique mineral deposit will be exploited using large mechanised state-of-the-art underground mining methods, deploying the latest technology to   develop this “mine of the future”. Suitably qualified and experienced candidates are invited to apply for the following vacancies required for the project development.

     Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

    • B-Tech in Mineral Resource Management or National Higher Diploma/National Diploma in Mine Surveying (advantageous).
    • Advanced Survey and Advanced Evaluation; Elementary Survey and Evaluation; Basic Mine Survey; and Basic Sampling.
    • Sound knowledge of underground mine surveying, survey control, mechanised mining, point-cloud processing, QA/QC, design compliance and volumetric analysis.

     Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

    • Minimum five years' relevant mine-surveying experience, including substantial underground mechanised mining exposure.
    • Experience co-ordinating survey work for an operational mining section and supporting monthly Mine planning.
    • Practical experience in point-cloud processing, survey calculations, design verification, compliance analysis, monthly reporting and technical guidance of junior personnel.

     The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

    • Manage all survey requirements for an assigned Mine section and translate monthly mine plans into weekly and daily survey schedules.
    • Coordinate field surveys, control extensions, line and grade work, scanning, set-outs and as-built surveys, ensuring safe and timely completion.
    • Process and quality-assure conventional survey and point-cloud data, including registration, cleaning, modelling and verification against Mine control.
    • Analyse excavations against approved designs, quantify overbreak, underbreak and positional deviations, and compile weekly and monthly compliance reports.
    • Implement and support advanced survey technologies and process improvements that enhance safety, accuracy, turnaround time and data quality.
    • Provide technical direction and coaching to Junior Surveyors, Survey Technicians and Survey Assistants.

    Section Surveyor - Surface (REF: IVP-MTS-2616)

    Job Description

     Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

    • National Diploma/Diploma in Surveying, Geomatics or Engineering Surveying (NQF Level 6), or equivalent; an advanced qualification is advantageous.
    • SAGC registration in Engineering Surveying at the appropriate category, or eligibility to register.
    • Valid Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC), valid driver's licence and medical fitness for a mining environment.
    • Sound knowledge of MHSA Chapter 17, survey QA/QC, GNSS and control networks, engineering surveying, UAV photogrammetry, laser scanning and CAD/GIS applications

     Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

    • Minimum seven years' relevant surveying experience, including at least three years in mining or major construction.
    • Proven experience in survey control, engineering setting-out, earthworks and volume calculations, as-built surveys and contractor quantity verification.
    • Supervisory experience is required; practical UAV, photogrammetry, laser-scanning and point-cloud-processing experience will be advantageous.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to: 

    • Lead, plan and prioritise daily, weekly and month-end surface survey activities in support of mining, construction and infrastructure development.
    • Establish, verify and maintain survey control networks, benchmarks, GNSS systems, surface plans and spatial records.
    • Set out and independently verify civil, structural, mining and service infrastructure against approved designs and tolerances.
    • Complete topographical, earthworks, stockpile, as-built and quantity surveys, and issue accurate and traceable results within reporting deadlines.
    • Verify contractor surveys, quantities, claims and design compliance, and record and resolve identified deviations.
    • Manage UAV surveys, laser scanning and point-cloud processing, while ensuring safety, accuracy, QA/QC and effective supervision of employees and contractors.

    Junior Surface Surveyor (Ref: IVP-MTS-2617)

    Job Description

Suitably qualified and experienced candidates are invited to apply for the following vacancies required for the project development.

    Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

    • Grade 12 and a Chamber of Mines Certificate in Basic Mine Surveying, or a relevant recognised NQF Level 4/5 qualification in surveying, geomatics or civil engineering.
    • Valid driver's licence and medical fitness for a mining and construction environment.
    • Competence in routine total-station, GNSS and levelling surveys, with the ability to interpret approved drawings and complete basic survey calculations.
    • Basic working knowledge of MicroStation, Deswik, AutoCAD or similar survey-processing and CAD software is advantageous.

     Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

    • Minimum 3 years' practical survey experience in mining, construction or engineering surveying.
    • Experience in routine construction setting-out, topographical and levelling surveys, as-builts, monitoring, earthworks or stockpile surveys, and field-data processing

     The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

    • Support the Section Surveyor (Surface) in the safe and timely execution of routine surface survey requests.
    • Set out approved points, lines, offsets and levels using authorised control, drawings and work instructions.
    • Conduct routine topographical, levelling, as-built, earthworks, stockpile and monitoring surveys.
    • Download, organise and complete basic processing of survey data, and prepare draft records and drawings for technical review.
    • Inspect survey control and equipment, coordinate Survey Assistants during assigned tasks, and escalate discrepancies, failed checks and non-routine matters.
