    Security Chemist & Environmental Specialist - (PA 1078)

    Job Description and Responsibilities:    

    • Coordinate the approval of new chemicals and or materials, production and non-production, in line with material chemical conformity standards.
    • Implement quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of chemical analysis.
    • Work in collaboration with external suppliers, local and international, during development of new products and or materials.
    • Ensuring that all routine material tests required by Group standards are performed and documented accordingly
    • Maintaining library of all technical and safety data sheets for online materials
    • Manage the Plant Water Treatment Contract; ensuring that the service provider deliver outcomes as per agreed requirements.  This includes water treatment at all local sites in Kariega
    • Ensure that effective effluent control measures are in place, work in conjunction with Municipal authorities to ensure compliance to the Volkswagen Group requirements as well as to municipal bylaws.
    • Co-ordinate waste management reduction activities at a departmental level to ensure a targeted approach in achieving the Plant Zero Impact Factory commitments
    • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permits relevant to the organization's activities

    Education and Experience:    

    • BSc or National Diploma in Chemistry (Analytical or Biochemistry)
    • At least 5 years experience in chemical analyses, including sample preparation, instrument operation, and data interpretation.

    Skills, Attributes & Other requirements:    

    ESSENTIAL:

    • Good Understanding of Chemical Compliance Management and guiding regulations
    • Sound Knowledge of Water Treatment processes and Emissions Testing requirements 
    • Technical knowledge of laboratory protocols, testing standards and ISO 17025
    • Computer skills(VW Mainframe, Windows, MS Office)
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Ability to work under pressure and be self-motivated
    • Sound communication skills and an ability to communicate at all levels
