    Senior Accountant

    Job Description

    Purpose of the job :

    • To oversee the financial health of AECI.
    • You will manage financial reporting, budgeting, auditing, and forecasting activities.
    • Your role involves ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations while providing strategic financial insights to senior management.

    Planning and Budgeting

    • Assist with the AECI entity budget process, in conformance with the AECI guidelines and principles.
    • Assist with monitoring and controlling expenditure within the approved level, ensuring compliance with budgetary control procedures and policies.
    • Manage the budget and forecast reports for the Income Statement and Balance Sheet.
    • Financial Management and Reporting
    • Coordinate the compilation of financial information in preparing financial statements, including monthly and annual reporting.
    • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures.
    • Oversee the creation of new GL accounts and cost centres.
    • Prepare monthly and year-to-date financials with accompanying analysis of results and insight into variances.
    • Coordinate the monthly management reporting packages.
    • Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
    • Review financial reconciliations (including GL).
    • Authorise month-end journal postings.
    • Prepare month-end and year-end Cognos reporting packs.
    • Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
    • Coordinate monthly and year-end financial reporting.
    • Conduct ad-hoc financial analysis as required.
    • Ensure the export provision is cleared every month.
    • Prepare and maintain accounting records up to the draft of financial statements stage.
    • Monitor filing deadlines for a portfolio of clients.
    • Liaise with other staff and departments dealing with other aspects of a client’s regulatory requirements.
    • Review accounting statements, expense reports, and standard forms for accuracy, completeness, and conformity to procedures.

    Intercompany Loan Accounts

    • Maintain intercompany loan accounts.
    • Oversee intercompany monthly confirmations.
    • Oversee monthly intercompany reconciliations.
    • Manage relationships with AECI subsidiaries.
    • Hedging Process
    • Maintain the hedging process in line with AECI Treasury policy & ensure that all imports and exports are hedged accordingly weekly.
    • Oversee treasury reconciliation and submit to AECI as per the deadline.
    • Request the draw in of contracts by AECI for FEC payments.
    • Request spot cover to be taken out by AECI for Rand payments.
    • Ensure compliance with all legislation in relation to SARB & accounting matters.
    • Treasury and Cash Management
    • Follow up with FSSC on any outstanding bank reconciliation items.
    • Inform FFSC of the minimum amounts required to open bank accounts in country.
    • Liaise with banks on any queries.
    • Manage relationships with banks and financial institutions.
    • Manage monthly management accounts for a portfolio of internal and external customers.
    • Correspond and interact with clients to obtain information required to complete tasks and to make them aware of filing deadlines and other obligations.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Minimum: Post-graduate / Honours Degree in Accounting and or Finance
    • Member of a recognised professional Institute, Nationally, Regionally, or Internationally.
    • Registered member of SAICA: CA (SA)
    • Minimum 5-8 years’ experience as an Accountant.
    • Proficiency in accounting software (SAP) and advanced Excel skills. Familiarity with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
    • In depth experience of managing multi-dimensional programmes, deadlines, and large budgets.
    • Engagement with diverse, external international stakeholders in managing legislative risk.
    • ERP system /SAP R3
    • Internationally Accepted Accounting Standards (IAAS)
