    Senior Accountant CA (SA)

    Job Description

    • With the humble beginnings of a single store in Johannesburg CBD opened by Anthony and David Spitz in 1968, SPITZ has grown from strength to strength to become synonymous with the excellence of the exclusive international brands it offers in store. 
    • An exciting opportunity exists for a SENIOR ACCOUNTANT CA (SA) at SPITZ in Bryanston, Johannesburg.  The purpose of the role is to ensure accuracy and completeness of the Trial Balance and accurate and timeous financial reporting (Internal & External).

    Line Manager: Financial Manager 

    Job Specification:

    Key Performance Areas:

    Prepare and process all month-end journals and ensure GL closes in specified time

    • Ensuring accurately compiled journals are submitted at the month-end before the GL month-end cut-off, with supporting documentation saved electronically.
    • Reconcile Balance Sheet accounts.
    • Ensuring balances on Balance Sheet recons are accurately and timeously recorded, keeping in line with principles of IFRS.
    • Differences/reconciling items are followed up, investigated and cleared, leaving minimal outstanding items
    • Prepare the income tax calculation (provisional, bi-annual and annual) per AVI template and in accordance with Tax Act.
    • The Mark-to-Market revaluation of FEC’s should be performed monthly in accordance with the information received from AVI head office (TMS report). 

    Prepare accurate and timeous financial reporting to AVI (Day 4 Early Estimate, Day 8 Monthly pack, quarterly, interim and year-end additional reporting, AFS)

    • Ensure all reporting to AVI is accurate and complete and submitted timeously per the AVI calendar.

    Prepare and submit statutory obligations and External reports: Vat Return (Monthly), Stats SA (Monthly/Quarterly), Tax Annual Return

    • Ensure the VAT and Annual Income returns are submitted accurately and timeously within the rules as defined by SARS.
    • Avoid interest and penalties.
    • Ensure we deliver as required by Stats SA Turnover reporting as defined by the required format set out by Stats SA.
    • Ensured we comply with legislated requirements from government departments. 

    Preparation of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts

    • Prepare the budget and forecast balance sheet workings and the consolidated budget/ forecast pack as required by AVI, ensuring information is accurate and complete. 

    Preparation of the Annual Financial Statement and XBRL AFS tagging

    • Assist with the year-end audit, ensuring requested documents and supporting schedules are provided timeously and audit queries are resolved as they arise.
    • Preparation of annual financial statements in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
    • Assisting with XBRL AFS tagging.

    Confirm validity and accuracy of purchase orders, local and foreign payments and release thereof

    • Review the accuracy and validity of payments before release. Ensure all payments are released before bank cut-off times.
    • Review the accuracy and completeness of purchase orders before release. Ensuring supporting documents have been appropriately approved within cut-off times.

    Other weekly and monthly outputs

    • Prepare the weekly 8-week payment forecast for submission to AVI Treasury, ensuring accuracy and completeness of planned payments.
    • Maintain and update the lease management tool, ensuring all new and renewed lease agreements are accurately captured and supporting contracts/ LNS’s are uploaded in a timely manner.
    • Assistance with ad hoc requests and queries from business.
    • Compile accurate cost centre reports for department heads, enabling effective budget tracking and financial performance analysis.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Experience:                                                                   

    • Articles completed and signed off at one of the Big 5 Audit firms are  advantageous
    • Minimum of 1 - 3 years post article experience

    Qualifications:

    • Qualified CA (SA)

    Additional Requirements:

    • Accounting Standards (IFRS)
    • SAP Advantageous
    • Previous Retail experience is advantageous
    • Knowledge of financial processes and systems of internal control
    • Microsoft Excel
