Senior Accountant (Temporary) at TB HIV Care

Purpose of the position: 

• Responsible for the gathering and analyzing of financial information, supporting and developing budgets, reporting, information dissemination and analysis. This role will provide direct support to the Reporting Specialist and the finance team including: month end processes, audit preparation and execution and other ad hoc tasks.           

Minimum Requirements    

• Accounting Degree with 3 years related accounting experience or Diploma in Accounting with 5 years related accounting experience
• Advanced MS Office
• Experience with Pastel and SAP
• Knowledge of Fraxion and SharePoint
• Advanced financial reporting and reconciliation skills
• Strong knowledge of VAT, payroll reconciliations, and compliance
• Audit preparation and support
• Financial analysis and interpretation
• Clear credit and criminal record

Duties and Responsibilities    
Financial management and accounting

• Oversee general project bookkeeping, including cashbook reviews and journal processing
• Review bank reconciliations and ensure reconciling items are cleared
• Reconcile general ledger and balance sheet accounts
• Review and authorise creditor, staff payments, and transfers
• Supervise creditors and debtors account management
• Review petty cash transactions and ensure ledger accuracy
• Monitor and ensure accurate capturing of sub-recipient expenses
• Perform monthly trial balance and age analysis reviews
• Reconcile payroll-related income statement and control accounts
• Reconcile VAT to underlying source data and submit accurate SARS returns
• Prepare ad hoc financial reports, reconciliations, and analysis

 Auditing and compliance

• Assist with statutory and funder audits
• Support BBBEE audit preparation
• Prepare and submit employee tax and UIF payments
• Compile compliance reports (including Stats SA reporting)

 Cash flow management

• Monitor bank balances and ensure sufficient liquidity for payments
• Manage loan account and inter-account transfers

Administration

• Ensure proper retention of financial records (manual and electronic)
• Maintain and update SOPs and finance policies
• Perform additional duties as required

 Stakeholder management

• Maintain strong working relationships with funders, government bodies, auditors, and external partners
• Collaborate effectively with programme staff, support units, field staff,

People management

• Recruit, train, and supervise finance team members
• Manage timesheets and leave
• Assign and direct work
• Provide performance feedback and ensure development
• Address disciplinary matters and resolve complaints timeously
