Senior Advisor, Social Performance (South Africa) at Hatch

Hatch is currently seeking to recruit a Senior Advisor, Social Performance role to be an integral part of a growing global practice. Reporting to the Director, Community Engagement and Social Performance – Africa, Europe, and Middle East (AEM), you will be responsible for establishing the CESP practice in Africa in collaboration with other business units and the reporting Director. As the technical CESP expert you will deliver projects and coordinate the involvement of other consultants across Africa with opportunities on metals, energy, and infrastructure projects.

In This Role, You Will

• Provide CESP technical expertise and supervise multi-disciplinary project teams throughout the life cycle of client projects.
• Undertake CESP project management tasks on behalf of clients.
• Deliver CESP services with a focus on stakeholder engagement and community engagement planning and management which could include impact assessment and management, agreement making, community engagement and consultation, human rights, local employment and procurement, commitments for broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE)
• Record, research, identify and anticipate any social risks to project development, including solutions to meet these challenges
• Assist clients as they deliver upon their socioeconomic commitments and develop plans to meet industry best practice
• Develop proposals and bids and support the implementation of a CESP pursuits in Africa
• Assist clients through consultation required for environmental assessments in collaboration with our Environmental Services Group (ESG)
• Identify client opportunities with project managers across the Hatch organization and externally
• Share your experiences with colleagues and clients at speaking events, networking events, conferences, webinars and through online blog posts

Skills And Qualifications

• Degree qualified in anthropology, social sciences, public policy, communications, sustainability or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 6+ years’ in social performance experience across the project lifecycle on major projects ideally in complex cultural and socio-political environments
• Expertise in CESP technical planning, program design and execution
• Hatch seeks to build complementary skills across the team demonstrating comprehensive CESP practical and advisory experience. Applicants will need to demonstrate their practical experience in the following areas.
• Socioeconomic assessments and reporting
• Community development and social investment
• Community and stakeholder mapping and engagement and conflict resolution
• Monitoring and evaluation and social value metrics and reporting
• Program and project management
• Robust understanding of emerging ESG practice and deep practical experience applying international performance standards including the IFC Performance Standards and other development finance and project financier, and client requirements preferred, but not essential
• Country exposure in Africa is highly regarded
• Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
• Creative and approachable with a willingness to recommend innovative solutions to clients
• Willingness for both domestic and international travel as work requires
• Effective, open communication and presentation style with the ability to plan and deliver best in class, high quality deliverables
• A willingness to proactively meet clients’ needs whether big or small
