    Senior Animal Health Technician M000274 Re-advertisement

    Job description

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

    • Under the supervision of the veterinarian/lecturer, the animal health technician will be expected to work with the veterinarian in charge and follow instructions.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Under the supervision of the veterinarian/lecturer, the incumbent will be expected to:

    • Prepare for veterinary clinic cases;
    • Prepare and assist with student’s practical;
    • Prepare/Organise Community service and Outreach; and
    • Do follow up of cases under supervision.

    In charge of Production Animal Section with preparation for the in and outside calls;

    • Inventory of drugs and equipment in the section;
    • Maintain and do follow up of hospitalised patients; and
    • Proper recording of all cases.
    • Assist Postgraduate students with samples collection and their projects when needed.
    • Administration

    Minimum requirements

    • A bachelor’s degree (NQF level 7) in Animal Health.
    • Registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).
    • A minimum of 3 years’ working experience in veterinary area.

    RECOMMENDATION / ADDED ADVANTAGE:

    • A Master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Animal Health with Production and Companion Animal as areas of specialisation.

    KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Technical competency in Animal Health: production animal.
    • Community service, veterinary clinic and outreach.
    • Participation in research.
    • Publication

    BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Ability to work in a team 
    • Leadership ability
    • Dynamic
