What's the role?
In you role as a Senior Application Engineer, you will be responsible for collaborating on project execution to support Hilti’s sales & business development field teams in the acquisition phase of projects through direct interaction with relevant stakeholders, in order to understand our customers technical requirements and provide relevant Hilti solutions. You will be based in our Johannesburg office, but reporting into our Regional PMO (Project Management Office) based in Dubai.

What does the role involve?
In this role, you will engineer, and design complete applications based on Hilti modular support systems within in Hilti’s Installation Business Unit portfolio, and related products such as anchors or direct fastening solutions. These Applications will be completed by using either Hilti proprietary software (PROFIS suite), standard structural calculation software (e.g. R-Stab, STAAD PRO, ...) or doing complex hand calculations.

You will be required to interact with different Hilti departments such as sales, logistics or finance within your market organization or across countries. Furthermore, you will provide bill of materials to other functions (e.g. supply chain) for further processing and develop the technical application competence within Hilti’s sales & business development teams.

As a Senior Application Engineer, you will manage external engineering subcontractors or junior Hilti application engineers to ensure quality of their engineering and conduct advanced value engineering (combining technical – commercial – logistics aspects) for defined applications. Finally, you will ensure the adherence to relevant codes and Hilti standards in project engineering and ensure the safe and Hilti rules compliant engineering of defined applications.

What you need is:

• Degree in structural or civil engineering
• Minimum 5 years working experience, some steel structure design experience is a must
• AutoCAD basic know how and experience using structural engineering software (R-Stab, STAAD PRO, SAP2000)
• Knowledge and usage of BIM or Plant Design (Revit, PDMS, S3D, etc.)
• Team leader experience - direct or indirect leadership
• Understanding the correlation between technical and commercial aspects of engineering work
• Ability to work with others in multicultural environment
• Willingness to work without tight boundary conditions on a daily basis
• Track record of solving complex engineering problems as lead engineer
• Proficiency in English - written and verbal
