    Senior Broker, Customs, Air & Sea

    Main Purpose of The Role:

    • To deliver value-added customs services by managing non-core customs functions that enhance client solutions, ensure SARS compliance, reduce risk, and support the organisation’s competitive differentiation within the customs clearing and freight forwarding industry.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Must have 5 – 10years working experience as Customs Broker
    • Must have transport to and from work
    • Must be willing to work overtime weekdays and weekends when the need arises
    • Must be fluent in English (written & oral)
    • Freight Forwarding & or Customs Clearing Courses will be an advantage.
    • Knowledge of Customs procedures and processes.
    • Must have been involved in Customs Clearing and have knowledge of the industry
    • Deal with relevant Controllers / Clients with regards to relevant queries and ensure that they are resolved
    • Ability to ensure SARS compliance and mitigate risks related to non-compliance
    • Strong analytical skills to resolve complex clearances
    • Must have been involved in Customs Clearing and have knowledge of the industry
    • Excellent interpersonal skills to liaise with clients, internal teams, government agencies
    • Responsible for own QC of work processed
    • Proven experience in Customs Clearing within the freight forwarding industry

    Added advantages:

    • Freight Forwarding and/or Customs Clearing courses
    • Customs-related training (e.g. audits, tariff determination, customs legislation

    Qualifications: 

    • Matric (essential)
    • Tertiary qualifications will be of advantage.

    Computer packages

    • Office 365 (Teams, OneNote, Forms), MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (intermediate).
    • Cargo Wise, Ship Shape

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

    • Manage and process customs refunds, drawbacks, and provisional payments

    Process customs declarations, including but not limited to:

    • Warehousing declarations
    • General entries
    • Industrial rebates
    • General rebates

    Ex-customs warehouse entries

    • Prepare and submit Vouchers of Correction
    • Conduct and manage customs audits from initiation through to finalization
    • Perform accurate tariff determinations (TDNs) in compliance with customs legislation
    • Handle and resolve customs-related queries from clients, internal stakeholders, and government authorities
    • Assist the Customs Manager with ad-hoc operational and compliance-related tasks as required
    • Ensure all customs activities are performed in accordance with SARS requirements and internal quality standards
    • Role may require overtime during peak periods or operational demands 
    • Independence and accountability are essential
