Senior Data Manager - R577B - Biostatistics at The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC)

The SAMRC Biostatistics Research Unit (BSU) has a vacancy for a self-driven and results-oriented individual to fill the above position. The candidate will enhance and support the data management activities of SAMRC research projects through providing input and innovation into the design of Electronic Data Capture (EDC) and Database Management Systems (DBMS). The candidate will be an integral part of the research team and collaborate to enhance the quality, integrity and functionality of data management for research projects.

Core Requirements:

• At least a 3-year tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline; degree in Data Management/Information Science or Computer Science
• At least five years’ experience in the design and management of databases
• Experience with programming electronic and online data collection tools/questionnaires with Redcap, ODK, OpenClinca and CSPro for use with tablets, laptops, cellphones, barcoding machines.
• Extensive knowledge of relational database systems; MS SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft Access
• Working knowledge of data visualization tools and dashboards; Power BI, Tableau
• Able to recommend and implement new tools required for databases, data security and dashboards
• Experience with data transformation packages (ETL) and merging data
• Train and support end users including data extracts and reporting
• Develop documentation including Data Management Plans (DMPs), SOPs, working instructions, user manuals, etc
• Work with study teams, statisticians, researchers, and other colleagues, providing advice on data management and related issues in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to facilitate communication between various stakeholders, principal investigators, statisticians and program managers
