IDM - Senior Financial Accountant

The purpose of this position is to ensure the smooth financial and commercial operations of the FS division of IDM. You will be required to observe, understand and involve yourself in all commercial and financial aspects of the division. Your advice and expertise will be sought from time to time, and your recommendations for improvement will be expected. You need to be a self-starter, and be able to work independently. You will need to find creative solutions to the challenges of the position. You will be accountable for deadlines and the clean running of the commercial aspects of the division (adherence to agreements etc). You will need to be dynamic and adaptable to the operational needs of the division.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the general ledger
• Analysing and reporting on actual vs budget.
• Full accounting function
• Keeping the books for some of the smaller entities to balance sheet.
• Balance sheet reconciliation of selected entities within the IDM Group
• Recording transaction and quality accounting according to IFRS latest standards.
• Advising on appropriate accounting treatment of complex transactions
• Preparation of monthly bord reports for DC & Non DC as well as affinity provider.
• Payment of Claims and Reconciliation of account to bord submissions
• Tracking and monitoring ST insurance business.
• Bank Reconciliations for all FS relevant GWP streams.
• Liaise with operations to reconcile and explain non-financial data (client numbers, other KPI’s, claims etc).
• Tracking and processing of refunds
• Processing and ensuring that payments are down on time and accurately according to deadlines as laid down.
• Maintain the fixed assets register.
• Taxation, preparing monthly VAT returns and treasury
• Managing general financial modelling and analytical tasks.
• Prepare monthly cost analysis.
• Implementation of agreements and changes.
• Tracking fees to agreements, to income statement and balance sheet, and advising promptly on discrepancies.
• Application of IFRS 9 to financial instruments.
• Risk reviews.
• Liaising with operations and internal representatives to resolve discrepancies.
• Resolving queries that relate to financial information
• Assisting auditors during external and internal audits
• Acting as support to the Head of Finance.
• Ad hoc tasks and analysis where necessary.
• Other reasonable company requests.

Requirements

• Must have BCom Accounting Honours or equivalent financial accounting qualification.
• Qualified CA(SA) advantageous.
• Must have 3 -5 years work experience as a Financial Accountant.
• Working knowledge of the insurance industry and accompanying latest legislation (most particularly long term insurance) an added advantage.
• A strong operational bent to liaise with non-accountant stakeholders to resolve queries.
• Working experience in a Financial Service (Specifically Insurance) company highly advantageous.
• Strong statutory financial accounting, reporting and tax knowledge and experience.
• Ability to take initiative.
• Ability to work independently and problem solve on their own.
• Able to think outside the box and innovate where necessary.
• Ability to prioritise various tasks from a large to do list.
