    Senior Financial Markets Specialist

    Job title: Divisional Head: Financial Conglomerate Supervision (x 2)

    Location: Head Office, Pretoria

    Brief description

    • The purpose of this position is to conduct high-quality research and analyses on domestic and international financial markets, with the objective of informing the executives of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) about financial market developments.

     

    Detailed description

    The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

    • Stay abreast of financial markets developments and provide accurate market information, commentary and recommendations on a regular basis. 
    • Conduct high-quality qualitative and quantitative research, analyses and interpretation of domestic and international financial markets in support of the formulation and implementation of the monetary policy and for financial stability purposes. 
    • Prepare and deliver high-quality presentations to senior forums of the SARB (e.g. Monetary Policy Committee and Financial Stability Committee). 
    • Write and contribute to keynote speeches for the senior executives of the SARB.
    • Produce market reports and feedback in order to provide management information/market intelligence. 
    • Represent the Financial Markets Department on internal and external committees, and make presentations at meetings. 
    • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders such as, but not limited to, the banking and asset management sector, for purposes of gathering market intelligence. 
    • Ensure transfer of knowledge and skills to junior specialists, which includes providing technical support and monitoring the application thereof. 
    • Lead junior Financial Markets specialists, quality assure and integrate their analyses and reports, and provide performance feedback. 
    • Ensure that methodologies applied in area of specialisation comply with local and international standards, and reflect best practices internationally and recommend improvements in methodologies where necessary. 
    • Perform ad hoc tasks as required.

     

    Job requirements

    To be considered for this position, candidates must have:    

    • A Masters’ degree in Economics, Finance or an equivalent combination of education and jobrelated experience; 
    • 8‒10 years’ experience in a specialist role in the area of market analysis; and 
    • Knowledge of domestic and international financial markets. 

     

    Additional requirements include:

    • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, with expert knowledge of MS Excel; 
    • Advanced mathematical, statistical or econometric modelling skills; 
    • Verbal and written communication skills; 
    • Report writing skills; 
    • Research methodology skills; 
    • Planning and organising skills; 
    • Decision-making skills; 
    • Interpersonal skills; 
    • resePnting skills;
    • Leadership skills;
    • Being a team player;
    • Integrity; effective communication; building and maintaining relationships; and  be familiar with Bloomberg and Reuters.
