    Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor, Information Systems, Faculty of Commerce

    Requirements for Senior Lecturer level:

    • PhD degree in Information Systems or closely related discipline
    • Prior experience in an academic role
    • Demonstrable teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level in Information Systems or closely related discipline
    • Demonstrable experience in curriculum design
    • A proven record of accredited research publications
    • Evidence of postgraduate supervision (at Honours and Masters levels)
    • Evidence of expertise in systems analysis and design
    • Evidence of expertise in agile methodologies
    • Evidence of expertise in systems development technologies using Object Oriented Programming techniques (e.g. Microsoft Visual Studio 2022, ASP.NET Core 6.0 (C#), Razor Pages, Identity/Authorization, Machine Learning (ML.NET), Blockchain (Ethereum, Solidity), Mobile App development (Android Studio/Java, MS Unity/Xamarin), Google Dart/Flutter, Python, Databases (MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL) etc.))
    • Evidence of expertise in IS Project Management

    Requirements for Associate Professor level:

    • PhD degree in Information Systems or closely related discipline
    • Prior experience in an academic role
    • Demonstrable teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level in Information Systems or closely related discipline
    • Demonstrable experience in curriculum design
    • A proven record of reputable accredited research publications including conference proceedings and journal articles
    • Evidence of postgraduate supervision (at Honours and Masters level)
    • Evidence of expertise in systems analysis and design
    • Evidence of expertise in agile methodologies
    • Evidence of expertise in systems development technologies using Object Oriented Programming techniques (e.g. Microsoft Visual Studio 2022, ASP.NET Core 6.0 (C#), Razor Pages, Identity/Authorization, Machine Learning (ML.NET), Blockchain (Ethereum, Solidity), Mobile App development (Android Studio/Java, MS Unity/Xamarin), Google Dart/Flutter, Python, Databases (MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL) etc.))
    • Evidence of expertise in IS Project Management
    • Evidence of leadership and/or administrative role

    The following will be advantageous:

    • Practical work experience in an IS/IT role.
    • Be conversant with frontline IS/IT and demonstrate a commitment to keeping up with the rapidly advancing technologies in the IS/IT field and introduce them in classes
    • Demonstrated ability to incorporate inclusion, diversity, and educational equity in teaching
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with a range of stakeholders
    • Record of contributing to supportive and collaborative work environments
    • In the process of supervising PhD student(s) at Associate Professor level
    • Evidence of research standing (e.g NRF rating)

    Responsibilities include:

    • Lecture on Information Systems courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
    • Supervise postgraduate students on research projects (e.g., Honours, Masters and PhD)
    • Conduct academic research in Information Systems on problems relevant to the local South African and broader African contexts
    • Disseminate knowledge through the publication of research in various accredited outlets (e.g., journal articles, full paper peer-reviewed conference papers, peer-reviewed books and book chapters, etc.)
    • Contribute to leadership and/or administration roles at the course, departmental, faculty and/or university level, as appropriate to the job level
    • Use academic skills to provide service to bodies outside of the university (e.g., professional society, government agency, NGO, community group etc.)
