    Associate Professor/Professor

    Requirements:

    • A PhD in biochemistry/molecular biology
    • A sustained track record of recognised research published in international journals
    • A track record of oral presentations at international conferences
    • Demonstrated ability to secure research funding from national and/or international grant agencies

    Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering (EBE)

    Requirements for the position:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a closely related discipline, at NQF level 8.
    • PhD in electrical engineering or in an appropriate field related to the advertised post.
    • Extensive experience in lecturing at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.
    • A track record of supervising and graduating postgraduate (i.e., MSc and PhD) students.
    • Coherent, established track record of research and/or industrial experience in the field:
    • Mechatronics – Robotics, field robotics, bio-inspired robotics, autonomous and intelligent systems.

    The following will be advantageous:

    • Experience in securing research funding from national and/or international grant agencies. A list of grants awarded to be included.
    • Experience in working and engaging with industries.
    • Relevant industrial experience.
    • National Research Foundation (NRF) rating.
    • Professional Engineering registration.

    Responsibilities include:

    Teaching:

    • Contribute to the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
    • Supervise/co-supervise final year undergraduate students and postgraduate (Master’s and Doctoral) students
    • Develop new approaches to teaching, including blended learning and online approaches.

    Research:

    • Conceptualise, lead and conduct research related to the field mentioned above.
    • Develop/expand research collaborations both nationally and internationally.
    • Raise research funding, apply for grants from appropriate national and international funding bodies.
    • Obtain and maintain a National Research Foundation rating (if not in possession of this already).

    Leadership, management and administration:

    Brand & Stakeholder Relations Specialist

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The main purpose and responsibilities of this position is to:

    • Lead the full lifecycle of business development proposals and initiatives from identifying opportunities to presenting solutions while proactively highlighting risks, mitigation strategies, and implementation plans which focuses on cost savings and/or generating new revenue streams for the department and UCT
    • Conceptualise, develop and supervise BSR projects through planning, integration and insights sharing within the unit, across CMD and UCT
    • Ensure projects consistently meet quality standards established by the university; relevant industry benchmarks; and the unit’s requirements including but not limited to UCT brand, style guide, vendor and health and safety protocols compliance 

    Develop and maintain strategic stakeholder relationships for and within BSR, CMD and across UCT by:

    • Developing and maintaining external business-to-business stakeholder relationships
    • Monitoring project flow within the unit
    • Monitoring project flow for institutional projects within CMD and UCT
    • Ensuring standardisation and best practice
    • Seeking integration and /or business development opportunities
    • Assist unit Heads with financial processes by ensuring adherence to budget management and reporting

    Assist unit Heads with benchmarking processes by seeking, overseeing and project managing the implementation of:

    • New project opportunities or enhancing existing ones
    • Benchmarking, best practice, and market research projects

    REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE:

    • NQF6 qualification in marketing, brand management, project management, business administration/development, or communications Marketing, Brand Management, Project Management,  Business Development or relevant

    At least five years relevant and recent experience in:

    • Leading end-to end business development initiatives that successfully generated new revenue streams
    • a marketing, brand management, business development, trade marketing or project management environment
    • Leading holistic and integrated marketing campaigns across the business to business and business to consumer
    • Operating in a global e-commerce environment 

    THE FOLLOWING WOULD BE ADVANTAGEOUS:

    Senior Research Officer, Centre for Minerals & Research, Department of Chemical Engineering, EBE

    Requirements for the position:

    • Master’s degree in chemical or metallurgical engineering.
    • 3 years’ industrial experience in mineral processing.
    • 10 years’ experience in a flotation research environment.
    • Ability to analyse and mass balance survey data, model-fit and simulate flotation circuits using the following packages: JKSimMet, JKSimFloat, IES, Excel and Python.
    • Ability to plan, execute and manage circuit surveys of mineral processing flotation concentrators.

    Requirements:

    • PhD or MBChB, or equivalent degree in a relevant field (e.g., oncology, epidemiology, molecular biology, public health, global health)
    • At least 5 years’ experience in cancer research, including leadership in an academic or research setting

    • Knowledge of the health research funding environment (national and international)
