    Senior Manager Maintenance

    Purpose of Job

    • Lead maintenance operations and asset management activities to maximize equipment availability, reliability, and overall plant performance in a dynamic operational environment. Drive the execution of maintenance strategies, turnaround activities, and capital projects to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable operations. Develop and implement long-term asset renewal plans, manage annual maintenance budgets, and optimize resource utilization. Accountable for ensuring the availability of safe, reliable, and compliant assets that support uninterrupted production and business objectives. Oversee the effective maintenance of plant equipment and facilities to enhance operational excellence, reduce risk, and improve asset lifecycle performance.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Develop and implement integrated maintenance strategies in collaboration with key  stakeholders to support business objectives, asset reliability, operational excellence, and long-term sustainability and continuously identify and recommend improvements to support the realization of the Operations strategy.
    • Provide strategic technical leadership and input into the Energy Operations strategy, including the development of operational objectives, performance targets, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
    • Assess and provide detailed reports on maintenance activities, including performance against set objectives, targets and KPIs, time frames, costs, and standards
    • Drive asset performance through effective maintenance planning, execution, monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring alignment with safety, production, reliability, and cost objectives.
    • Establish, oversee, and continuously improve maintenance systems, standards, practices, and governance processes to ensure consistent execution and optimal asset lifecycle management.
    • Manage maintenance budgets, long-term asset renewal plans, and capital expenditure requirements, ensuring appropriate financial control, governance compliance, and timely corrective actions where required.
    • Translate and cascade operational goals and long-term plans through effective two-ways communication in the organization.
    • Monitor, analyze, and report maintenance performance against agreed targets, including equipment reliability, availability, maintenance costs, shutdown performance, and compliance measures.
    • Lead the implementation and auditing of maintenance execution standards, safe work practices, technical assurance processes, and capability development programs.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement through the application of lean manufacturing principles, root cause analysis, optimization initiatives, and best-practice maintenance methodologies.
    • Ensure sustainable plant operation by developing systems, processes, and reliability strategies that improve asset performance, reduce operational risk, and enhance business outcomes.
    • Provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership regarding asset replacement, equipment end-of-life management, capital investment priorities, and return-on-investment opportunities.
    • Lead in establishing and continuously improving maintenance best practices, maintenance systems, aligning the right skilled resources to work with the right issues, improve and create maintenance standard for all process.
    • Manage contractor and vendor relationships to maximize service delivery, technical support, equipment performance, and economies of scale across the business.
    • Lead planned maintenance shutdowns and major maintenance interventions to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution.
    • Drive compliance with Sasol operating standards, statutory requirements, technical governance frameworks, and improvement plans.
    • Build and sustain organizational capability through effective workforce planning, succession management, knowledge management, coaching, mentoring, and talent development.
    • Cultivate a high-performance culture that prioritizes Health, Safety, Environment, operational discipline, employee engagement, and continuous professional development.
    • Meet compliance targets to Sasol operating standard per plant and adherence targets to improvement plan.
    • Foster a work environment that actively develops and encourages employees to achieve their maximum potential and overcome deficiencies through feedback, coaching, on-the-job training, and succession planning program.

    Formal Education

    • BSc/BEng/BTech Mechanical Engineering
    • Government Certificate of Competency (Factories)
    • Post Graduate Master’s Degree - Advantageous

    Min Experience

    • 12+ relevant years
    • Experience in Risk Based Management System - Advantageous
