    Summary

    The Senior Manager, Programs is responsible for coordinating VillageReach’s Supply Chain Integrators program, a 4-5 year initiative funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This large and complex body of work is aimed at improving primary health care outcomes in Africa with a focus on supply chain strengthening with work spanning across multiple geographies and stakeholders. The Senior Manager, Programs will report directly to the Vice President, Programs and plays a key role in working relationships with VillageReach leadership, partners and donors. Ideal candidates are experienced project managers with a record of accomplishment leading complex projects in Sub-Saharan Africa.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Senior Manager, Programs include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time.

    Project management, grant administration and internal coordination (75%)

    • Lead annual work planning activity and maintain project plans with teams

    • Manage grant milestones, ensuring timely and quality execution of all deliverables.

    • Facilitate routine cadence of program meetings

    • Lead internal communications and knowledge management pertaining to program

    • Ensure synergies and dependencies are being managed across teams

    • Lead routine communications and reporting to internal stakeholders including other VillageReach Board of Directors and Executive Team

    • Prepare donor communications for VP Programs, including monthly and annual reports for BMGF

    • Manage grant budget including expense approvals, reforecasting as needed, consultant and/or subaward management and conducting final review of expenses

    • Track donor trends as relevant to investment keeping VP programs and workstream leads apprised

    External Communications (15%)

    • Lead routine reporting for external stakeholders including donors, government leadership, and technical partners.

    • Liaise with VillageReach advocacy and communications team to produce communications materials including white papers, blogs, social media, collateral, and talking points.

    Technical Advising (10%)

    • Provide technical direction and assistance for Supply Chain Integrators program as needed

    • Advise VP Programs and workstream leads on trends and opportunities

    Requirements

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

     

    Education & Experience:

    • At least 5 years in management/leadership overseeing complex projects in sub-Saharan Africa

    • At least 3 years of experience in at least one of the following (more than one is a plus): supply chain, digital health, public private partnerships, or primary health care delivery.

    • Master’s degree in public health, public administration, business or related field.

    Other Qualifications:

    • Experience coordinating with government stakeholders, donors, and technical partners.

    • Interest in learning and working across health supply chains.

    • Proven record of accomplishment balancing detailed execution with strategy and partner/opportunity landscape.

    • Demonstrated understanding of challenges with working in rural, underserved and low-income context. Experience living in and/or working in a low-income country a plus.

    • Established cultural competency in partnering with racial, cultural and linguistically diverse groups.

    • Knowledge of project management systems, software tools and concepts. Project management certification is a plus.

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) and comfortable in a fast-paced technical environment with many technologies in use.

    • Fluency in spoken and written English required. French and/or Portuguese strongly desired.

    • Self-starter with strong communication skills; ability to work independently and ask for help when needed.

    Environment and Physical Demands

    VillageReach has no private offices, employees work in a shared, open environment with task and conference rooms accessible to employees for privacy and meetings. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Due to the time zone differences between our Seattle office and our Country Offices and location of other global staff, US based staff are expected to be available for early morning meetings starting at 6am. In addition, our global HQ and Country office staff are expected to be available for late afternoon/evening meetings up to 6pm.
