    Senior Operational Supervisor -Longmeadow

    Job Advert Summary    
    An opportunity has become available for a high caliber Senior Operational Supervisor within our operations. Please refer to the minimum requirements, duties and responsibilities below for further information about this position.
    Minimum Requirements    

    • Matric, in position or studying towards a Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain or equivalent with IR Certificate advantageous.
    • Sound knowledge of technical aspects, Code EB driver's license, EC driver's license preferential.
    • 2 years minimum experience in a supervisory position in the Transport Industry.
    • Contactable reference for last 2 employers, Computer literate and experience in MS Office, Training on ONE Network advantageous.
    • Fluent in English and any other African language, relevant experience in administration skills.
    • Problem solving abilities, must be organized and accurate.
    • Driven towards achieving productivity targets and upholding high safety standards through engagements and motivation of subordinates to achieve the desired targets/kpi’s.
    • Communication skills and able to with stakeholders

    Duties & Responsibilities    

    • Attend daily handover meeting with the relevant stake holders from the previous shift.
    • Supervise and control the yard and vehicles within the operations, directly where required or indirectly.
    • Oversee that the vehicles have been washed, checked by drivers, refuelled and chocked.
    • Ensure fleet and driver availability according to the plan set out by Pick ‘n Pay accessible on One Network.
    • Ensure that 65% of night-time deliveries has been loaded during the day and 35% of daytime deliveries during the night.
    • Liaise with Shift manager to align yard walk through schedules, as the yard must be walked through every hour.
    • Ensure that the responsibilities of the Briefers, Fleet Controllers, Dispatch Supervisors and Driver Supervisors are carried out to ensure that on time docking and dispatching takes place 1 hour ahead of time to mitigate risks.
    • Investigate reasons for delays or potential delays once escalated by supervisors and subordinates.
    • Communicate with Tracking Department regarding the availability of vehicles
    • Ensure supervisors provide the time and attendance reports within 15 minutes of shift start in order to calculate the amount of drivers/staff present vs required.
    • Ensure that the ETA reports are being received from the tracking supervisors every 3 hours.
    • Encourage regular feedback and updates timeously from supervisors and relevant subordinates.
    • Update and respond timeously to the Shift Manager on the relevant WhatsApp groups with updates, feedback and responses.
    • Report on any and all discrepancies, inefficiencies and/or vehicle/staff issues. Reporting should be factual, detailed, on time and accurate.
    • Complete Issue Logs regarding any delays and present it to the Shift Manager after the shift.
    • Implementation of Unitrans Distribution Centre procedures and processes to improve productivity and reduce overtime.
    • Ensure where required that all relevant staff follows SOPs available in the system. Therefore, keep them responsible and accountable for their duties in order to meet the required SOP expectations.
    • Operational gaps to be corrected.
    • Ensuring compliance to KPI's by all relevant staff.
    • Ensure all staff required for the different departments are present in full uniform.
    • Implement and conform to health, safety and risk requirements. Ensure compliance by all relevant supervisors and their subordinates.
    • Complete issue logs and relevant reports accurately with corrective actions for failures.
    • Ensure any and all relevant reporting information is presented on the specific formats as supplied by Outbound management.
    • Complete all reports timeously in order to be verified and combined for Shift manager and Outbound manager meetings.
    • At the start of each shift, investigate that all staff required for the different departments are present and on time according to the planned shift structure from the start to the end of the shift by means of monitoring the clocking system reports and liaising with the relevant supervisors regarding staff on duty.
    • Hold supervisors accountable for their areas and subordinate’s performances. Ensure optimal performance from the relevant supervisors and team members operating on the relevant shift.
    • Ensure that the drivers are managed through the Driver Supervisors
    • Ensure that the Shunters are managed through the Driver Supervisors
    • Ensure that the correct briefing processes are being followed by inspecting the process at least once per shift to ensure that the drivers are correctly and verbally briefed by type of dispatch as well as container keys issued if required.
    • Ensuring that any and all dispatching duties are being carried out on time and according to the planned dispatch times by the dispatch supervisor
    • Ensuring that any and all Fleet Control duties are being carried out e.g. maintenance and management of the fleet including refrigerated units.
    • Develop and performance manage the relevant supervisors to achieve organisational goals where required.
    • Take the necessary action within the company’ s policies and procedures to deal with poor performance, time keeping, misconduct and or any other related matter where the client and or the company may suffer.
    • Ensure 99%/95% on Time Docking
    • Ensure 99%/95% on Time Briefing
    • Ensure 99%/95% on Time Dispatch
    • Conduct disciplinaries with relevant supervisors where required.
    • Ensure that disciplinaries with subordinates were conducted by the relevant supervisors where required.
    • Collect and quality check all relevant disciplinary documents and hand it over to the Shift Manager.
    • Escalation must be done to upper levels if the immediate level is not reachable, as per organogram in escalation process.
    • Be on standby to take over any of the supervisors duties should they not be available to assist.
