    Senior Quantity Surveyor – Mining Projects

    Senior Quantity Surveyor – Mining Projects

    • One of our clients, a leading organisation within the mining industry, is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its team on major mining projects based in Klerksdorp, North West.
    • The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all commercial and quantity surveying functions throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring effective cost management, contract administration, procurement support and financial control.
    • The role requires close collaboration with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, contractors and client representatives to ensure projects are delivered within budget while maintaining contractual compliance and commercial best practices.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Grade 12 (Matric).
    • Bachelor's Degree or National Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Commercial Management, or a related field.
    • Professional registration with the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) will be advantageous.
    • Minimum of 8 years' experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the mining, construction, EPCM or heavy industrial environment.
    • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Senior Quantity Surveyor role.
    • Proven experience working on mining capital projects, plant construction, infrastructure developments or shutdown projects.
    • Strong knowledge of contract administration, cost control, budgeting and commercial management.
    • Experience administering NEC, FIDIC, GCC or JBCC contracts.
    • Strong understanding of procurement processes, tender evaluations and contract negotiations.
    • Experience preparing Bills of Quantities (BOQs), cost estimates and project valuations.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.
    • Experience using cost management and ERP systems such as SAP, CCS Candy, BuildSmart, Pronto or similar software will be advantageous.
    • Excellent analytical, negotiation, communication and report writing skills.
    • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and contractual documentation.
    • Willingness to work on-site in Klerksdorp, North West.

    Roles and Responsibilities:
    Commercial Management

    • Manage the commercial aspects of mining and construction projects from project initiation through to close-out.
    • Ensure effective cost management and commercial control throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Provide commercial advice and support to project management teams.
    • Monitor project financial performance and recommend corrective actions where required.
    • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company commercial procedures.

    Quantity Surveying & Cost Management

    • Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets and Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
    • Monitor project costs against approved budgets and identify cost variances.
    • Prepare project valuations, cost reports and financial forecasts.
    • Measure completed work and verify contractor claims.
    • Monitor project expenditure and forecast final project costs.

    Contract Administration

    • Administer construction and engineering contracts throughout project execution.
    • Review, evaluate and negotiate contract variations and change orders.
    • Prepare and manage payment certificates and interim valuations.
    • Assess contractor claims and contractual entitlements.
    • Ensure all contractual documentation is maintained and administered correctly.

    Procurement & Tendering

    • Assist with the preparation of tender documentation and commercial evaluations.
    • Review supplier and contractor quotations.
    • Participate in tender adjudication and contract award recommendations.
    • Support procurement teams during supplier and contractor negotiations.
    • Ensure procurement activities comply with company procedures and project requirements.

    Reporting & Financial Control

    • Prepare weekly and monthly commercial and cost reports.
    • Monitor project cash flow, commitments and expenditure.
    • Produce commercial dashboards and management reports.
    • Identify commercial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
    • Assist with financial audits and project close-out activities.

    Stakeholder Coordination

    • Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Procurement, Finance, Contractors and Client Representatives.
    • Attend commercial, project progress and contract review meetings.
    • Provide commercial guidance to project teams regarding contractual obligations and cost management.
    • Liaise with contractors regarding payment applications, variations and commercial matters.
    • Ensure effective communication between all project stakeholders.

    Risk & Claims Management

    • Identify commercial and contractual risks throughout project execution.
    • Manage variation orders and contractual claims.
    • Evaluate extension of time claims and associated cost implications.
    • Maintain detailed records supporting commercial decisions and claims.
    • Support dispute resolution processes where required.

    Compliance & Governance

    • Ensure compliance with company commercial procedures and quantity surveying best practices.
    • Ensure compliance with NEC, FIDIC, GCC, JBCC and other applicable contract conditions.
    • Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation for audit purposes.
    • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and project governance requirements.
    • Promote adherence to health, safety, environmental and quality standards on site.
