Working with biohazardous biological samples and substances in a Bio Safety Level (BSL)2 laboratory with significantly increased risk and exposure.
Use and operate BSL-1 and BSL-2 equipment including cryogenic/freezers and gas cylinders that may pose considerable hazards
Assist with sanitation, receiving and logging of samples (Adherence to SOP compliance).
Use of correct sanitation techniques, materials, equipment and protective clothing to clean labs, including animal labs of BSL2 section, surfaces, floors, equipment, and glassware/utensils.
Prepare material, reagents and equipment for lab essays.
Responsible for removal of laboratory waste (bins, chemical and biological waste)
Assist with laboratory preparations incl. labelling of sample containers, processing and preservation of biological specimens from experimental animals
General assistance - Ad hoc tasks from time to time to assist with smooth operation of labs, including experimental animal lab’s activities and samples transportation/deliveries, ensuring services continue uninterrupted.
Monitor and record general laboratory conditions (room and fridge/freezer temperatures, humidity, surfaces, equipment etc.)
Core Requirements:
Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Life Science
2 Years experience in a laboratory setting, and/or exposure to veterinary environment
Ability to work within a team.
Wiling to undergo a health assessment including TB testing
Computer literate
Basic understanding of quality control within a laboratory
