Senior Researcher: Production System (3 Years Contract) at Agricultural Research Council

Key performance areas 

• Initiates, coordinates, and manages projects. 
• Coordinates project plan with the Research Team Manager. 
• Manages people within projects and ensures optimal utilisation. 
• Compiles and manages project budgets. 
• Actively sources new national/ international research opportunities and writes proposals. 
• Plans and co-ordinates technical projects. 
• Manages project facilities, material, and equipment. 
• Ensures optimal utilization of resources. Identifies the need for resources (equipment and material) in project(s) and manages them accordingly. 
• Independently conducts specialist research/technical support, diagnostics, and other services across projects. 
• Manages and ensures compliance to quality standards. 
• Builds and maintains international and national relationships and networking opportunities (e.g. impacts national and international scientific gatherings and farmer communities). 
• Influences as a specialist. 
• Renders expert diagnostic, technical and other services and consults at a national/international level. 
• Exploits intellectual property developments and assists in its development. 
• Meet peer norm requirements for specific field of expertise, by recognising authorship or contributions. 

 
Requirements: 

• A PhD in Plant Breeding / Molecular Breeding /Genetics with Plant Breeding as a major. 
• Minimum five (5) years post-qualification experience in Plant Breeding. 
• Minimum 8 relevant peer reviewed publications. International and/or national speaker, Magnitude of measurable outcomes. 
• Registration with a relevant scientific registration body will be an added advantage. 
• Recognised as an International and/or national speaker. 
• Supervise or co-supervise 1 x PhD 2x M.Sc. every 5 years: with an emphasis on critical and scarce skills. 
• Ensures compliance with SHE/OHS policies and procedures. 
• Develops technical capacity at an appropriate level. 
• Identifies and participates in own learning opportunities and learning of subordinates. 
• Valid driver’s licence.
