Senior Specialist Technical Accounting at Anglo American

Job Description:

As a Senior Specialist Technical Accounting,your responsibilities will include:

• Monitoring, researching and sharing developments in the financial accounting and reporting sphere especially in terms of  the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)

• Evaluating and assess the implications on internal accounting and reporting processes and prepare recommendations for developed/obtained solutions, proposed changes in systems, policies and procedures

• Proposing projects to automate and standardise transactional accounting throughout Kumba. Drive them once approved

• Ensuring compliance to the latest approved accounting and reporting regime (Kumba and Group), regulations and legislation

• Driving the integration of new standards and policies into existing procedures and systems

• Advising on transactional accounting and reporting technical matters and provide functional technical accounting support

• Preparation of financial statements and related reports for the group entities

• Reporting of significant accounting matters the Audit Committee and Anglo American

• Developing accounting framework for new businesses/BU’s

This role is in the Finance Department at a Band 6 level reporting to the Financial Reporting Manager.

Qualifications:

• CA (SA) registered professional

 Experience: 

• Solid years relevant experience in Accounting (corporate / preferably large mining/resources company, large accounting firm)

• Experience with interface / impacts on other teams within Finance

• Preparation of financial accounts

• Understanding of complex commercial and technical accounting issues good knowledge of IFRS

• Experience of financial systems (e.g. SAP) and strong working knowledge of financial controls

• Experience of working with cross-geographical teams

• Operational experience in the mining industry (desirable)

• Experience of interaction with other functional disciplines in delivering technical accounting and taxation solutions (desirable)
