Senior Technical Services Manager at Anglo American

Job Description:

Manages and co-ordinates the Technical Services Unit (comprising of Project management, Engineering disciplines and Research & Development) to ensure sound technical support and technology, delivering operational efficiency and solutions that will maximize shareholder value and growth in line with the De Beers Marine objectives.

Key responsibilities include: 

• Develop short- and long-term Unit budgets and capital expenditure forecasts; and allocate and manage the utilization of financial resources to deliver the Unit’s annual and long-term revenue and plan targets 
• Strategic management and implementation of Unit’s strategy to ensure a sustainable function delivering to the requirements of its customers.
• Identify and ensure that the technical services Unit critical business processes are developed and implemented, drawing on synergies from other organizational processes for operational excellence
• Co-ordinate efforts and integration across Unit disciplines and departments to ensure seamless integration and service delivery, such as efficient delivery of engineering discipline services; effective delivery of projects within time, cost and quality and aligned to client requirements; providing innovative solutions and new designs for improved marine mining; and upgrade executions of customer's vessels.
• Manage the establishment of Engineering standards, specifications and service levels according to organizational objectives to ensure maximum operational availability. 
• Manage the provision of technical knowledge management services e.g. Document control, Configuration Management, Knowledge Database Management, Information Management etc
• Deliver to and support the Technical Operations unit to ensure the effective delivery of shut-downs, rotable maintenance
• Compile the Business Unit Risk Log and manage significant risk according to sound risk management practice and organizational requirement 
• Management of the safety performance of the unit ensuring the continued enhancement of the safety culture towards Zero Harm

Qualifications:

• University Honours Degree in Engineering (minimum 4 years)
• Leadership Development Programmes 
• Experience at middle to senior management level (7 to 10 yrs)
• Technology/engineering development experience an advantage

Good knowledge and experience of:

• Development of complex, sophisticated technical solutions to operate in extreme environments
• Mining and related operations environment
• Marine operations and Marine Engineering an advantage
• Technical areas - Geology, Mining, Metallurgy, Engineering
