Purpose of Job

• To ensure effective Environmental Engineering and Occupational Hygiene risk management 

Key Accountabilities

• Adequate experience to perform all the duties of Mine Environmental Control and Occupational Hygiene effectively
• Short to long term design, operation and maintenance of all ventilation systems
• Fire and Explosion prevention
• Emergency preparedness and response management
• Manage and coaching of subordinates
• Cost and administrative control
• Appointed in the capacity as Section 12.1 in terms of MHSA
• Short to long term design, operation and maintenance of all ventilation systems
• Occupational hygiene risk management
• Ensure and control legal compliance
• Implement and maintain action plans to ensure a healthy and safe work environment
• Timeous and effective problem solving with proven effectiveness
• Create and maintain a positive team environment
• Ensure and support personal, technical and skills development of working team
• Enable an increased awareness of the Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene risks
• Perform coaching
• Perform cost control and administrative functions
• Manage the Key Performance Areas of subordinates
• Control of day to day functioning and activities of ventilation/occupational hygiene duties
• Reporting on statutory requirements

Formal Education

• University Bachelor's Degree
• Certificate in Mine Environment Control as recognised by the Mine Health and Safety Act 
• Basic principles of Occupational Hygiene
• Registration with SAIOH as Occupational Hygienist (wish)
• Certificate of fitness (must)
• Valid Code 8 license

Working Experience

• Minimum of 5 years in Colliery Mine Environmental Control
