Our client, a leading manufacturer, is seeking an experienced SHE Specialist to join their team on a fixed-term contract. This role is responsible for leading and driving Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) strategies, ensuring legal and ISO compliance, managing SHE systems, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement across multiple manufacturing and operational facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement and drive the SHE Strategy and Operational Plan in line with business objectives and performance targets.
Ensure compliance with all applicable SHE legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act), NEMA, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and other regulatory and licensing requirements.
Develop, implement and continuously improve the SHE Management System, including policies, procedures, protocols, work instructions, legal registers, objectives, management reviews and multi-site ISO certification.
Act as the management representative for ISO management systems by planning and conducting internal audits, coordinating external certification audits, verifying corrective actions and maintaining audit programmes.
Lead risk management initiatives by conducting workplace risk, hazard, aspect and impact assessments, identifying potential risks, implementing effective control measures and ensuring assessments remain current following operational changes.
Drive a positive SHE culture by leading behavioural safety initiatives, facilitating improvement programmes and ensuring a safe, healthy and legally compliant working environment.
Identify SHE training needs and coach, mentor and develop Plant SHE Coordinators, SHE Representatives, First Aiders, Fire Fighters and other support functions to achieve SHE objectives.
Coordinate emergency preparedness by maintaining emergency equipment and action plans, liaising with emergency authorities, conducting emergency drills and supporting fire prevention and emergency response activities.
Maintain accurate SHE records, legal trackers, reports and communication systems while promoting SHE awareness across all internal and external stakeholders.
Lead workplace incident and accident investigations using structured problem-solving techniques, implement corrective and preventative actions, monitor effectiveness and drive continuous improvement across all operations.
Manage individual, team and departmental SHE performance to support organisational objectives and operational excellence.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12.
Bachelor's Degree or National Diploma in Safety Management.
Minimum 3–5 years' experience in a SHE Specialist or similar role.
Minimum 3–5 years' experience within a manufacturing or automotive environment.
Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act), NEMA, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
Strong leadership, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple sites and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Advantageous
ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Internal Auditor certification.
