Effectively partner with internal stakeholders to co-ordinate mill stability across departments. This includes but is not limited to the prioritisation of mill issues, oversight of the shift artisans, management of risk, hosting of formal shift meetings, liaising with senior leadership on long-term mill stability, shutdown and start-up planning, and the appropriate assigning of resources to balance the mill to constraints.
Adopt a continuous improvement and risk management lens to all key levers which contribute to the achievement of budgeted production at optimum costs.
Manage SHE risk by enforcing rules, ensuring legal and permit compliance, auditing, and addressing upset conditions in an appropriate manner.
Ensure the achievement of target quality parameters and minimize waste by assisting in trouble shooting and applying continuous improvement principles to the achievement of production targets.
Ensure proactive mill optimisation and budget output achievement by addressing bottlenecks with relevant department and standby teams; and balancing the mill to constraints.
Makes use of mill standard operating procedures, process modelling tools and statistical analysis to ensure optimal running of the mill.
Ensure optimal cost through the proactive management of raw materials, overtime, callouts, and abnormal losses.
Liaise with external stakeholders to ensure uninterrupted supply of utilities & services whilst following relevant escalation protocols.

Builds and leads an inspired and engaged high performing mill shift team that consistently produces results.
Actively promotes the development of his/her shift team.
Your profile:
BSc / BEng Chemical Engineering
Minimum NQF level 8
South African Driver’s license
Adv. Diploma in Pulp & Paper will be advantageous
3 - 5 years’ experience in Pulp & Paper manufacturing with in-depth process knowledge of all sections of the Mill OR Qualified Engineer with 2 years of mill-wide experience
Experience and knowledge of building and using scientific process modelling tools would be advantageous
Experience in the use of applied scientific methodology for problem solving is required e.g., use of stoichiometry and balancing of equations
